Pinion offset
 
Do the pinion center in line with the car center line on nova 1970?

any input !

no, both axles are the same length therefore the pinion is offset

The offset is .520 to the passenger side on 1970 & 1971 rear end. KenneyKelley

BB engine is offset in the engine compartment.

Offset is .520". If you measure from the end of the housing to the center of the pinion, the difference is about 1".

Tom - The offset is handled with the differential carrier, thus the axles are the same from side to side.

yep, that's what i was getting at...
(not too successfully i guess)

anyway, no, the pinion is not centered...

Thank ! everybody,
Mine at time is at .750 to the passenger side . The transmission tail is on the centerline So the drive shaft do not line up with the pinion.This bring an other question!

Is it better the put the pinion , on the car centerline or let it as is?

i suppose ideally but a little offset will not hurt anything (unless the drive shaft rubs on something like the driveshaft tunnel)
