micro-switch for tach (2 stage shiftlite)

just finishing up lots of little stuff on my 86 camaro (I/SA) and need to hook up blue wire from autometer tach to a micro-switch on my quarterstick shifter to trigger second stage of the shiftlite. my problem is i have rev. pattern valvebody and it needs to work off of 1st gear. anybody make-up one to work off shifter or linkage that would share a pic or two with me ? thanks for any help gang ! P.S. STOCKERS ARE WAY COOL !!!!!

Don't have any pics but I made a small Alum. bracket that bolted to my shifter bought a roller tip microswitch from Radioshack. Works fine, would take pic for you but car is in storage. My shifter is a Precision Performance Products not familiar with yours but assume you could do something similar. Joe

Kevin
I had the exact same setup in my car. What I did is bought another micro switch just like the neutral safety switch and mounted it on the opposite side of the plastic slide that turns the neutral safety switch on and off. Then I modified the plastic slide so that it would make the switch in first gear but as the slide moved to second and third it would not make the switch operate. It took some epoxy and sanding but in the end it was a problem free mechanism.
I upgraded to a playback tach that did not need the extra switch anymore otherwise I would take a picture for you.
Thanks

Chad

Another possible solution, depending on trans used is to put pressure switch in press. test port of transmission. Some have individual ports to test specific gear pressures. Again it would depend on your particular transmission. Joe
