lOOKING FOR SPEC'S 302/215@240

like the title says, I'm looking for the build sheet for the 215hp(240hp factor) and can't find them. The only 302 I see is the 340hp.
Where do I look?

Thanks,
Jim

Re: lOOKING FOR SPEC'S 302/215@240

if you can find an old Ford Racing catalog, I believe this is the old GT 40P engine from the mid-late 90's. It should list the cam lift, head cc, etc. Other than that, I believe the block, pistons, rods, crank, and rocker ratio are the same as the other late model 302's. To my knowledge, this engine essentially just had the heads from an Explorer.

The engine I run is the 1992 regular GT 40 crate motor.

call Hank Blankenship...he should have the specs..276-531-8654

It is the same specs as the standard 87-90 302-225/215 EFI HO motor but without the EFI.

Ford Racing offered it as a crate motor in the early part of the decade when they were blowing assembly line push rod engines out.

M-6007-F50 was the part number.

No GT-40 heads,
E7TE castings with .445 lift and any cast intake with acceptable 750 carbs.

Geroge Wright built the first one years ago, put it in his FC/M Probe and promptly proceeded to fly with it.

At the time probably because it was a Ford and GM was king around there IHRA promptly whacked it with 25 HP.
Of course the last part is purely speculation on my part so all of you GM crate motor guys don't get in a uproar. It was a long time ago. ;)

Re: lOOKING FOR SPEC'S 302/215@240

Thanks for the responses guys. So it's a stock roller cam 5.0 87-93 except it has 750 holley?
Cool, so sportsman rods and approved pistons, .445lift bullet cam should get me started....actually, these had forged pistons from the factory, are the factory forged piston legal or do you have to run the approved aftermarket ones?

Thanks for Hanks number Chris, I think I'll call next week.

you can run the stock pistons. If you are going start out with the stock bottom end, make sure you get at least install a good vibration sfi damper.

Alex, what is that 302 270/250 HP crate engine that some guys run? I don't remember it.

By the way, still debating about lifters. haven't done anything yet.

Re: lOOKING FOR SPEC'S 302/215@240

Chris, The 270/250 is the gt40p heads, flat top pistons with four valve notches, and the 498 lift cam. I thought the 215/240 engine was the same engine except the cam was the smaller I think 442 stock cam. Gary Peterson

I think this is the engine in question.
Basic production Mustang 5.0 longblock pulled from the assembly line and a couple of FRRP valve covers thrown on.
Cam specs would be the same as NHRA Stock eliminator 87-93 5.0 engines I would imagine.

Re: lOOKING FOR SPEC'S 302/215@240

The 285/265/255hp engine has the gt-40 head, flat top pistons, 4 valve reliefs, 480 lift cam.
As I said earlier the 270/250 use the gp40p head (explorer head). The 215/240 engine is basically the explorer engine, Olin Welborn had this engine in his 68 Mustang in k,l,m crate motor when was running it in IHRA a few years ago.It also has the gt40p heads. The 95 Mustang that I ran in M/cm was the 270/250 engine. I tried the 285/265 when I first built the car but found that the gt40p head were a better head and at that time was worth the 15 hp difference over the gt40 head. I believe IHRA lower the hp to 255 last year. Gary Peterson
