Shift on time or RPM

I would like to know peoples thoughts on shifting on the throttle stop. I have my TS coming on .200 after the hit...on for 2.500 (give or take). I have tried both shifting on RPM and time. I have been more consistant by shifting at RPM, but run a little more MPH on time shift. So I wanted to see what you guys are doing and what works.

I'm in the time camp. Way more consistent for me. Car climbs when on the stop otherwise. But YMMV.

I've set it before at .7, but was thinking its too quick. any thoughts?

.2 on the stop is a good hit !
.80 on the shift is good for me with a stop RPM @ 4200 puts me close to a .90 run @ 165 or so in S/Gas Trim.
Your Stop RPM is important to be consistant if you running S/Gas or S/Comp.Alway's check stop RPM at every track !

Thanks for the info. Chuck. Sounds good to me. I will try it. I have another question for you if you don't mind. If my stall RPM is 5600, what should my on the stop RPM be? I was told to set it at 500 RPM lower than my stall, but I have had problems doing that and running a consistant number.

Re: Shift on time or RPM

IMHO, you should set your stall at a number that gets you a time on the stop between 1.5 and 2.5 seconds (1.0 to 3.0 max) in any weather. Sounds like you could go lower and run on the stop just a little less.

I shift on time as well. Timer one for the stop is .000, shift at .50-.75, looking for a 1.90 60' time, stop 2 timer is 4ish seconds for me now and down power RPM is 4100. This will get me a 10.90 in the mid/high 150's typically, or 11.05 in the mid 150's here in Vegas.

Re: Shift on time or RPM

The reality is every car is going to like something differant. Chris is right, the best senario is 1.5 to 2.5 seconds. The problem is some cars, because of the power they make, will require a lot more time in the timer. My car goes on the stop at .07 and I am shifting at .30. I have my rpm's set at 3700 and will still end up with 4 seconds of time in the timer. I have been as fast at 9.90 at 174 depending on conditions
