Re: IHRA records
I would say its because most of the IHRA points meets are double races and there is not enough time for tear down and to put the car back together for the next days race. I run both series. The time for the double events is tighter. Qualify in the begining half of the day. Eliminations in the afternoon and evening.

Re: IHRA records
You have to tear down the day before you set a record, not afterwards, which complicates things. This means showing up on Friday, tearing down, re-assembling, having IHRA "seal" the engine, and then setting the record the following day.

Re: IHRA records
Seems like the IHRA method makes a lot more sense than tearing down *between* qualifying and eliminations. I know one time we discovered an issue in teardown that picked the car up significantly. I think it's easier and more sensible... don't see how it complicates things at all.
I've set numerous records, so it's not for the piece of paper anymore. We don't get Record points anymore, so the only incentive for me is to get a pic of the car in the magazine for my sponsors... and one record I set the mag said "photo not available". Really? Like there's no photos of the Volare on file! |
Re: IHRA records
I agree that tearing down first, sealing the engine, and then setting the record makes the most sense.
That is what we did in Las Vegas, and it worked out good. It actually was convenient that our first run was scheduled for 6:00 PM that day, and we started the tear down just before noon, and finished before race time. That sure beats the rush we had to put on in Chicago (this one was not a record run, but it was a tear down between runs) and scurry like crazy to get things back together before we were scheduled to run again. Re: IHRA records
I was looking forward to setting a IHRA record last year at the Pro-Am here in division 6 but was told IHRA would not have staff on hand to handle the inspection. Maybe next year....
