Heads Up Late Model Cars
There was some talk lately from NHRA and a couple of other sanctions about some Top Stock type racing, similar to what Div 1 had this fall. I am wondering how much interest there would be in this. Pro Tree, about 3250 V8 cars, 3450 V10 cars, 3650 Blown cars or thereabouts. There are sure enough of us out here make a class, sorta like S/S in the 60's. NHRA Stock rules and specs. Comments

Re: Heads Up Late Model Cars
Jeff,
I haven't raced myself in quite a while now but I really think that is what both NHRA and IHRA needs if there is to be any type of interest in class cars. I am 61 and have been a life long drag race fan and I raced for almost 25 years myself. But . . . as much as I love going to the races, when the class cars and the .90 cars come to the line, it is time for a lunch break. Dont get me wrong, I love watching the class cars wheelstand etc but when it comes down to it, it is bracket racing and I cannot stand watching it. I bracket raced myself for almot 25 years, but I just am not a good spectator. I love Pro Stock and enjoy the show of the fuel cars because they are heads up racing. That is the way it should be ! Realistically I know that because of the economics, stock and SS will probably never again be a heads up deal, but if it was, I would sit and watch every bit of it ! Just my opinion, |

Re: Heads Up Late Model Cars
I think the blown Mustangs would still kill you at 3650 lbs.

Re: Heads Up Late Model Cars
Only if there are some races on the west/left coast
If it ends up like IHRA - with almost all races east of the Mississippi - we would not be able to make many :-) peace |
Re: Heads Up Late Model Cars
Jeff, call Phil Painter , he is always looking for a draw at the MATS event and I'm thinking he is starting to open to other brands these days.
You got his number. Nitro |
Re: Heads Up Late Model Cars
I would pay to see this.
I have to believe that this is what the manufacturers are hoping for as well. |
Re: Heads Up Late Model Cars
Would be cool. I wish they would bring top stock back where we race!

Re: Heads Up Late Model Cars
I've always liked the idea of a Top Stock format and would like to see A-B-C cars combined on a B weight. I'd also like to see D-E-F with the same format on E weight. . Would be exciting for the racers and the fans and may give incentive for the slower classes to move up. But now that NHRA has AAAAAA classes, that kinda screws my idea up.
