Ed hamburger mopar intake

Back in the 70's, Ed came out with a Port-oSonice intake that he welded or epoxied a box that fit over the intake and held ice water, chilling down the manifold. Did it work? Is it legal today? Does anyone have any info on or pictures of it? Thanks

Yup I had the Hamburger Porto-sonic Offy intake, I'm still pretty sure I have it hiding in the attic somewhere. I don't remember the cooling device you are talking about. Ed and I were very good friends and associates. Jim

I had my hands on one of them at a swap meet years ago. It was an edlebrock dual plane, not a port o sonic though. It was neat, had a big aluminum pan that went right down into the valley and was sealed on both ends. The guy who had it didn't know what the purpose of the big pan was. Ice would make sense, but we thought it was to keep the hot oil away from the bottom of the intake. The new air gap manifolds are kind of the same idea. I've never seen another one, should have bought it just for conversation sake.

Moroso made a tray/pan that went under the intake manifold and kept the oil from directly splashing on to the underside of the manifold. You placed the tray in the lifter valley then installed the in take manifold. I used it on the SS car. Jim

You guys are going off topic again. I have a OLD Polaroid picture of the motor with intake. It won't scan. Its that bad. I remember that the aluminum sheet metal was tiged on to the aluminum intake and at least one petcock for drainage. Would it have been in one of Ed's Hamburger Performance 340/360 catalogues?

I remember seeing the set-up once but don't recall if it was in an article, news release, pic or catalog. But if it was in one of his catalogs, it was in one I don't have and apparently not advertised for an extended period. 1975, 1979-1980. 1981-82 & 1984-85 catalogs do not have it in it.

The 1975 catalog had only the LD340 advertised, including TQ mods.

The 1979-1980 has the "new" Edelbrock single plane intakes noting that they make more power than the Offenhauser Port-O-Sonic, which was the best over the previous 2 years. (According to the catalog.)

It looks like a 1976-1978 catalog has the best chance of having more info on the popsicle stick/cooler box Port-O-Sonic..

I saw the manifold you are talking about on Hamburgers Duster at the 1976 Winternats.
It was sealed to the top of the manifold and filled with ice. It had a plexiglass cover so you could see the ice. I think it was a Port o sonic.

I have about 5 off these Port O Sonic intakes, none that have this ice box, just stock!

1972 Photo,

I can't see an Edelbrock or Offenhauser decal on the car.

The 71' Duster utiized a Thermo-Quad.

We ran 340's back in the early 70's. I think I can dig up one of the
'For 340's Only' catalog.
