Min. allowable tire clearances
Looking for some ideas on what the min. allowable rear tire clearance should not exceed . From the inside of the rear slick to the leaf spring . Its a 1969 dart stocker and the leaf spring is the only thing that limits how far in the tire can go . Your opinions / expearences please . Ken R . ..............

Re: Min. allowable tire clearances
Is this a Stocker? On my Volare' (F Body) I have 3/8" from the widest part of the tire to the leaf spring. This is using a radial Hoosier. I would give at least 1/2" to 5/8" if bias tire is used. Jim

Re: Min. allowable tire clearances
Jim,don't you think that a bias tire would only get narrower as the speed increases?
The reason I'm asking is that I have/will have a similar issue. |
Re: Min. allowable tire clearances
Calvert has a narrower spring available for the Darts.

Re: Min. allowable tire clearances
Thanks guys for the info/input what a great sport to be part of ! I was thinking 1/2 inch would be safe enough , with a hooser radial tire and the caltac set-up that the friend/racer has supplied us for his stocker c/sa dart .The goodyears seam to have alittle less side wall bubble compaired to the other tires , at least thats want I know from what I ran on my 67 camaro . I don't build alot of cars , but the once I'm apart of I want wright and mopars are not my back round . It would be nice to see some of my work go rounds .

Re: Min. allowable tire clearances
I have more piston to wall clearance than my Goodyears and the springs. It's annoying having to touch up the paint on the springs every year but the tires seem okay. I think they only contact making turns.
