Eddy aluminum head for the 273-318
Just looked at the NHRA car classification. 1964-1970 273 and 318 have the edelbrock 60767 heads OK'd for these motors. That's a 202 intake vs the factory 1.78. Is something wrong or is it another MOPAR MIRACLE?

I think you have to install the smaller valves.

Re: Eddy aluminum head for the 273-318
Definitely need smaller valves and seats plus I think guides are wrong
size to and will need to be replaced as well. Will not be cheap bolt on conversion. I heard rumor that they were going to be unapproved for stock again.........Anyone else hear that rumor? |
Re: Eddy aluminum head for the 273-318
How does nhra keep doing this. First they ok'd the edelbrock LD4B with the factory #"s ofr the 273, bought 3 and now they are illegal. Now , how much $ do I need to spend on a set of eddy heads before they are illegal?

Re: Eddy aluminum head for the 273-318
Where did you hear that the LD4B is illegal and when did this happen? I have a copy of a letter from Bruce Bachelder stating that they are legal and the division 5 tech guys approved it for me last year, if this is true I may need to make a change before the season starts up.

Re: Eddy aluminum head for the 273-318
Factory dimension valves are required.....diameter and stem size....for the early LA heads the 60767 head will need the guides reamed larger (they come with 11/32 guides on early production, later production is supposed to be correct)....the valve seats as installed are going to be close for the smaller valves but they are basically unfinished so you can fit the valves and machine the seats.....
A set of heads will set you back around $1300.00 bare...with parts and labor the skies the limit to get a set ready to roll..... DL Rambo..... |

The info on the eddy head i found on the tech/sportsman section on nhra.com.

Re: Eddy aluminum head for the 273-318
There are no legal edelbrock heads for any mopar at this time. That have to recast head within reason. I was told not to waste my time by NHRA. As far as making a set work on a 273 don't waste your time. I looked into it and be ready to spend 5000 plus and there is no way it will work as good as the cast heads available. This is obvious if you have ever looked at one of the edelbrock heads and figure what the valve job will look like with a 1.78 valve in it.

I agree with Paul (Usually Do)! Pretty tuff to change from 202 to 178......
That a Quarter Inch of difference! It would be expensive deal for sure..... Buy and then replace everything. Irving Family Racing NHRA National Record Holders O/SA 318 Small Valve |
Re: Eddy aluminum head for the 273-318
So what is the best cylinder head for a 318 small valve in super stock?? Looking at a GT combo.
Large valve too,I'll look at both combos. |
