Congrats to Bobby Warren and Family
Grabbed the National Dragster out of the mail box this morning and just finished reading a very nice article about Bobby. Truely a individual deserving of this recognition, some great info and pics also. My personal favorite is that after all those wins and records, he puts a stick in the Firebird and goes out and wins another national event at 69 years old.

Re: Congrats to Bobby Warren and Family
Bobby Warren is a long time friend and fellow racer. If you were racing stock and super stock back in the days when you ran off of the National Record each week, not some index somebody thinks the car should run, you looked in the back of the National Dragster to see what the record had been lower to. Many times the name of Bobby Warren and Haywood Register would appear and you had to go see what you could change on your car to get to that number. Find some copies of the old Dragster and see how many times his name appeared in that list.
You had a problem with your car, you talk with Bobby and if you handed him the keys, he would take your car out on the track and run quicker than you could. An incredible personality in the history of Stock and Super Stock drag racing. Bobby Warren was inducted into the East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame in 2003. Congratulations Bobby we'll see you at the track. |

Re: Congrats to Bobby Warren and Family
In 1970 at the first NHRA SummerNationals held at York in Pa....
Bobby Warren was driving the brown'69 Chevy II in J/S. No lettering....no nothing....He went faster in J/S than cars 2 or 3 classes higher.....in the broiling sun!! We could hardly believe he could run that fast. We set the H/S record in Sept only a little faster than Bobby went at that race in J/S ! That car went to George Cureton eventually The last race I ran as a legal SS/JA in the early 80's.....I raced Bobby in his red SS/GA Camaro......He won..... I saw him at Maple Grove a few years ago racing his LT-1 Stocker......he was out walking in the AM and pleasant as can be......Always felt he was truly a legend right up there with Dave Boertman.......I always felt the racers from the hot south really were the best......they could run fast in conditions that were very tough.....hot and humid.... |
