Cometic gasket?
 
A small block chev gasket 40 thou thick,how much will it compress to?:confused:

A Cometic gasket will only compress to the thickness of the individual pieces. Usually you have a 0.020" stainless piece in the center, and then two coated pieces riveted to it. Measure the unembossed thickness of the two coated pieces, and add that to the 0.020" stainless piece in the center, that's your minimum compressed thickness.

You can call them to verify it, but as far as I know, the thickness listed is the compressed thickness. In other words if the gasket part number ends with -40, it will be .040 compressed thickness.

I think they give you the compressed thickness and the cc's.
