Didn't They Forget A Few Classes?

Has this been discussed? I just saw this on the NHRA website. It brags about car counts being up 5% over 2011 but it leaves our the figures for the true Sportsman classes, doesn't it? I wonder what the percentage of loss would be if they included ALL cars in the count? By limiting the amount of cars allowed at races they have automatically lowered their car count but they have intentionally not included Stock, Super Stock or any of the Super Series cars! Guess it confirms what we all have been thinking for years. We just don't count to Glendora! Jim

Jim- You must have read it wrong - their words are - combined total of 2050 cars in 15 classes ..........if they used 15 classes how many did they skip ?

I don't know the answer to that Jack, what I do know is they never mention or provide stats for the Sportsman classes I listed. If you do the math using the stats and figures they provide, it comes out to what they state. If they included the Sportsman figures it would be different wouldn't it? They obviously have used only the numbers they show in the article and no others. Jim

Re: Didn't They Forget A Few Classes?

It actually comes out to 4.875% for the 4 classes they list. Where are the figures for the other 11 classes? Without offering the figures for the other 11 classes the article is incomplete and it looks as if that was intentional. Wouldn't it be much more prudent and informational to offer ALL the facts and numbers in order to back up their claim? Or is it that they believe we are only interested in the Pro classes? Jim

Jim - I know its Saturday night but you have to lay off the sauce .Simple math - in 2011 they had 1955 competitors in the first four races and in 2012 they had 2050 in the first four --- up 5% over last year using all 15 classes .

I think this is simply a case of trying to paint a good picture of a grim situation. The Pro car counts are all they care about. They can get more cars at some of these races if they wanted to increase the quotas. The important number is the front gate. Anybody heard anything about that number?

All that you say is true and I would be very interested in the gate percentages also. It must not be all that good or they would have included that I would think. As you say most people's financial situation is very grim right now. I still would like to see the percentages for Stock/ Super Stock and the Super classes. After all they claim that they have not lost cars in any classes. It would make the story much more complete if they added all the stats to back that up.

"“The teams have maintained their numbers despite the downturn in the economy, which is surprising considering the cost to run those cars and how dependent they are on sponsors, and it speaks volumes for the value of NHRA Drag Racing and their ability and resourcefulness to find ways to pursue their dreams. We’re not only maintaining our numbers but seeing some growth in some classes"

My college Journalism Prof would have called this story "incomplete fluff".

Jack, I don't drink. Jim

Part of what they don't say is every class is ran at every national event this year where last year each race had one class not represented. Also, I bet the percentage has gone down now that a few more races have been ran. The car counts were low at several of the more recent races.
