Remembering the days
1 Attachment(s)
It's raining and I found a photo by Mr. Bob Rogers that brought back so many memories. If you are old enough to remember match races every night of the week or you are young people who have heard stories about the races and the crowds that were there every night, then here is something special. My wife and I have been looking at this photo and thinking of all of the tracks and nights that this photo represents. To quote the late Ronnie Sox, "the big name guys out racing now are not having near the fun we had back then. A different race and a different crowd somewhere almost every night."

Re: Remembering the days
Some one else has some photos of that Sox car, at this time I can't remember who showed me some of them in a scrape book a few years ago. Dean Sox may have them.
What you don't see in the match race group photo are the small time guys who made up the 8 or 10 car race for the night. The track would promote and 8, 10 or 12 car match race an have 4 or 5 of the "Big Boys" as represented by this photo, you went to the race got your small amount of money and unless you were really on your game for the night you are out in the first round. Then the next couple of rounds were made up of these cars. The specators showed up by the dozens. When I see these photos, like the one I posted, I think back of all of the foolishness, pranks and things that went on in the pit area at these races and going down the highway to get to them. By the way, glad you enjoyed the photo. |
Re: Remembering the days
Chris, where was that photo taken that you posted, do you have any more details or time roughly...the photos I posted of the Grumpys Toy & Ronnie Sox wreck were at a Florida track, can't remember dates or exact location...Larry Lombardo was was driving for Bill Jenkins at the time and hit the guard rail, and Sox had brake failure at the end of the shutdown area.

James, no I can't take credit for most of these pics that I post, they are all posted on other websites on the worldwide web, all I do is link to them and try to tell any information about them...anyway here's one of Grumpys red Vega pro stocker, heard it was originally his white car.
