4-wide Pro red lights
Who would be determined the winners if, in a 4-wide Pro race, all 4 cars red lighted?
Would they all 4 lose ??? Would Bruton have to call in his lawyers???? __________________ |

I understand why the racers hate it and I'm disappointed that the NHRA caved to him. It's a circus act, not drag racing. NHRA used to be about the racers. Now it's about the spectators. Another example of the Golden Rule. He with the gold, rules. |

Wouldn't it still be "first or worst", no matter how many cars are running? The last competitor to red-light would be the winner, unless he or she crossed the center-line or hit the wall.
Z-max isn't the first place to have "four-wide" racing, but hopefully they'll be the last. The only "good'" thing about it is that it shortens the time needed to run the professional classes and leaves more time for Sportsman!:D Lew |

On the 4 wide pro tree the first red light applies. Two cars advance each round until the final.

That is diametrically-opposed to the established system for breakouts. where the car with the time closest to the dial-in WINS. The worse offenders go on to the next round, using that logic. "First or worse" is a playground for multiple intertpretations. I read where, if three cars in a 4-wide redlighted, the red-lighting car with the least infraction went on to the next round. That makes all kinds of sense to me. Probably never happen, but I thought it an interesting possibility. |

To amswer your question about if all the cars redlight in a 4 lane race, of course the two with the worst red light would lose. They would be the furthest from perfect .000 lights. Their minus whatever from .000 would be the most: Such as -.02 is worst than -.01. So, obviously the closest to .000 are winners. This applies to all heads up classes. Of course it does not apply to a handicap start race which is like comparing apples to oranges. These are the rules we all race by and even may be a factor in deciding what class or car we choose to race. |

You're right on all counts, Bill.
It's a shame that what is considered "fair" in the Pro categories isn't concidered "fair" in ithe Sportsman ranks., but as you pointed out, that's the way it is. For now. Thanks for your excellent explanation of how this all works; you did a great job explaining it. |
