cleaning fuel lines ???

Friend bought a car that has "racing gas" in the tank ,lines etc---no engine in it !!!! brand of fuel is either unknown or unsure but definately 2011 gas----what is the easiest and best way to clean the whole fuel system out-- not exactly sure which brand of gas he is going to use but probably VP so let's go from there to start with---Thanx FED387

Re: cleaning fuel lines ???

clean the tank, replace the lines if they had fuel sitting in them. That is what I'd do if it were braided. friend ruined a good carb not following this.

If the tank has anti slosh sponge get rid of it too. Also agree replace the lines, better safe than sorry.

OK thanx for the replies---any way OTHER LESS EXPENSIVE than replacing all the hose and the tank to get "old " gas remnants out---more interested in passing fuel check than anything else--no its a plastic cell and Aeroquip style braided hoses

Re: cleaning fuel lines ???

I was told VP does not sit well for long periods of time, becomes caustic.
I removed the line from my car as it was letting vapors thru and stinking up garage. it was braided, about 7 or 8 years old I think.
I have new russel line in it now, and the smell is gone.
Like I said my friend bought a car that sat for a short while, maybe long don't know. He proceeded to get it running w fuel system in car and the deteriorated braided line filled the regulator and carb with junk. never got carb right again. cleaned the cell, replaced the line, ok now. ruined carb tho, and after I sold him my good back up, ughhh.

Re: cleaning fuel lines ???

before he replaces it. clean out the cell. put in new fuel, run pump thru lines into bucket a gallon or 3 of unleaded to a bucket to check for sediment.
Cap the line rerun to fill and shut off full line. let sit a while and rerun thru to see if any sediment comes into bucket maybe even a couple times.thru a screen of some sort might help for a sec. clean t shirt or some sort?
if clean after about 3 or 4 gallons or till cell empty. proceed to refill w favorite blend and fire away.
another idea.
