Strange 12 bolt 9"
Has anyone had experience with an aluminum Strange 12 bolt drop out center section? Are there any durability issues? What kind of E.T. reduction could I expect over a standard 9"?

Re: Strange 12 bolt 9"
hi Mark we have used one on and off in my SS 65 Mustang for over 12 years. Maybe1000 p-asses I LOVE IT. The only durability issue is with the junk chebbie ring and pinions that have such a awful tooth count I can only get about 45 passes out of a cryo'd PRO gear set before the pinion begins to self destruct consequently we alternate beteen third members to save on wear and tear Ring and pinion replacement gets expensive It is definately faster. Feel free to call us at the shop days any time to discuss further details we are on CST

Re: Strange 12 bolt 9"
Going on 19 years now with my Strange unit. No hint of wear with only one gear change. Always used synthetic gear lube.
As for ET reduction, can't really say because the 12 bolt drop out unit is the only unit I have used. Has been in 2 cars with total weight of 2,625 in SST Chevy II with a 14 x 32 Hoosier tire and 2,125 in SG '34 Chevy with a 16 x 33 Hoosier tire. I would say it has been an excellent unit. It was $2,200 complete with spool purchased in '93. Mike |

Re: Strange 12 bolt 9"
Yeah, Alex we went from a 4.88 GM gear set to a 4.56. These gear sets are pretty popular combos unlike your tall 6.14 set.
Come to think of it, I have never heard of the 6.14 combo but it must be a FORD and what the hell do I know about FORD. Squat... Mike |
