Changing model years on Novas

In another thread, there was discussion about building a 1970 Nova but running it as a 71 or 72. In NHRA, what is required to do that? Does the vehicle need to be trim level updated to the correct year or are the similiarities close enough that this can be done "on paper" (tech card)???

I do know that Luke Bogacki got DQd from Indy a couple of years ago for simply mistakenly writing the wrong year on his tech card, even though the trim matched the car and engine. The "stocker club" can be pretty "no bracket racers allowed" about that stuff when they want to be.

They do not enforce it on 70 -72 Novas..They are the same.I run a 1969 nova 350/255 combo I see more 1970 -72 novas claim this combo with no problem.Luke got bounced cause he claimed wrong engine. combo

John, I may be wrong, but I believe problem with Luke was not the year he claimed, but rather ther wrong motor for the year for claimed (ie 402 vs 396). As far as Bracket racers come on in the water is deep enough for everyone...Just don't try to change the rules.

Re: Changing model years on Novas

That's not what he said publicly...still a pretty simple issue to result in a DQ after driving 1000 miles rather than a "you mean a 402, right" comment from his fellow racers or tech. That's my opinion.

I never try to change the rules (to benefit me or anyone else) if I'm competing with my friends in a group...if I think they suck I either move on or start a new class. Who knows, I might be in Stock someday, it's my favorite class to watch.

i had a very similar conversation with div.1 teck concerning S/S cars. they want those issues correct. not all divisions do apparently.

Thanks for the info. Heading to Columbus tomorrow with the Top Sportsman car. Thinking seriously about starting on a stocker project this winter. Will likely put the T/S car on the market.
If I jump in, This board looks like a great place to get good advice.

Top Sportsman would probably be cheaper....................but stock and superstock are more fun

Far less chance of wrecking a Stocker on a bad track too. Normally you just blow the tires off and pick up your yellow ticket :) But you have to be up at 6 AM at nationals with a Stocker.

Hey John! Haven't talked to you in a long, long time. Hope all is well. As for your potential to park the TS car and come Stocker racing, all I can say is you'll meet some of the nicest, smartest guys on the planet. Look forward to seeing you at the races. Mike Lyons
