69 Camaro Z-28: How rare is it?
 

Went to the hub city this weekend. When I stopped by my favorite upholstery shop, I found this:
1969 Camaro Z-28, 302, Cross Ram, 4 speed, factory radio delete, and more.
Has name plate "Berger" on rear panel.

Was told that there were only "5" of these cars made. Truth?
What's the value? Was told 6 figures.....

The '69 Z28 was not that rare. I would guess every one bought for a race car (popular as race cars in '69) was ordered without a radio. If I remember correctly, the cross ram was a "dealer installed" option. Several guys bought that set up to install themselves.

The 1969 Camaro was produced for an extended period of time, as the 1970 was actually a 1970 1/2.

That color combination is fairly common, Fathom Green and Dover White.

You could probably research it to find out if it was really sold by Berger Chevrolet, which was a noted high performance Chevrolet dealer that specialized in the performance line. Berger did a fair amount of COPO ordering, as well as doing a lot of dealer installations on that type of part.

I seriously doubt it is a $100K car, unless it has some special heritage. I've seen complete numbers matching RS/Z-28 cars with all the options, including the cross ram, headers, chambered exhaust, and 4 wheel disc brakes, all verified, not bring that even being well restored.

Not many remember the 69 Camaro was manfactured well into 1970.
Can't remember if tooling for the new Camaro or some kind of strike
delayed the "70 1/2" production.

Sort of like the 82 Corvette. Produced months into 1983.

The 70 was delayed because of manufacturing issues at Fisher Body. Back in the day major tooling changes for signicant model year changes were a big challenge for all the car companies and they made the dies like they had to last decades (which they could). Manufacturing of aircraft, cars, etc has changed so much over the years it's amazing.

In order to get a high dollar you would need the build sheet,(proof of being a Berger car), list of owners, documented miles etc. If everything checks it might not fetch 100k, but it would be close.(80,s). Like they say theres a seat for every azz. gsa612

Alan,, I know my eyes are getting old,, but that looks like Rally Green to me. I'm thinking Fathom Green was quite a bit darker. I agree with most here that this car isn't really that rare,, even with the crossram. My '69 was a somewhat rare color, Burnished Brown, with an Endura bumper up front,, but it too wasn't rare, just a kick-butt all around fun car. Its the one I was always going to keep, but it was stolen in Jan of '75 and there wasn't enough left of it when the cops found it 7 months later to try bring it back from the dead. However, with todays' aftermarket and parts availability, if it happened now, I'd give it a try.

I believe there were more '69 Z-28s than either '67s or '68s. The cross ram is unusual but someone here said that was a factory install; so I guess I would say - the car is not that rare !!

It's looks like Rally Green to me. I used to have one just like it. Wish I had it back.
