According to this source <http://www.sprektech.com/nova/vin.html> the first digit (1) indicates Chevrolet Division. The second and third digits (1 and 8) indicate a Chevy II Nova SS with a V8 but do not specify which V8:

The fourth and fifth digits "6" and "7" do not compute on this chart. I believe that it should be "37" for a 2-door hardtop. Of course, the "N" stands for the Norwood, Ohio, assembly plant.

Thanks Chuck. Your right on the "37" Are there any #'s that will show what trans and which v8 ?

No, the 118 tells you it was a V8 Nova SS. 117 would have been for a 6 cylinder Nova SS. Unless you have the window sticker, Protecto Plate, build sheet or an original dealer invoice I don't think you can absolutely verify which engine it was born with.

With 3/8 fuel line it would have been a 327 car. 5\16 is 283 or a six. Tom
