Very sorry to hear. John was a lot of fun when he lived and raced up here in Colorado. Was a tough competitor and nice guy. Rest in peace my friend.

This is sad news indeed. We had a lot of good races and he was always so animated to talk to. He will be missed.

From all night teardowns of his T37 up on the mountain at Bandimere, to teardowns of the white Buick in Div. 7.......John could add to every conversation. He will be missed!!

Wow, I didn't know John was ill.I missed our lively conversations with him in The Lounge.
I first met John through Bob Duffy in 1969.John GAVE me a set of headers for my first Pontiac race car...Wouldn't take a penny for them. That's the kind of guy John was.. RIP, my friend |
Re: We lost a long time Stock/Super Stock Racer
John Mason was a Stock/Super Stock drag racer in the truest sense of the word. He competed neither for money nor ego but for the love of the sport. He seemed to enjoy every aspect of every day at the track. He was the kind of guy who put on no airs and offered no excuses. This moment brings to mind a phrase that, to me, epitomizes John's style: "Put on your helmet and get in the car, let's race!"
Going to the races these days is reminscent of going to a class reunion. No matter who shows up, we count on there being enough familiar faces to make that event memorable and worth the effort. John's passing will create a void that will affect us all. We have lost a valued friend and a tough opponent. |
