Low-HP Short Time?
For those of you running a 'Low' HP stocker (I thinking like ~250hp), what kind of short times are you getting? I am now at about 1.7 in the 60' with my new M&H tires, but my car is FWD. So, I'm interested to know how it compares to a RWD 'low' HP stocker. I know the higher HP cars are in the 1.4-1.5 range. But, It's probably not accurate to compare my car to that.

Re: Low-HP Short Time?
Rob, my current car (DF/S '92 Olds Toronado, 231 cid. 170/170hp) goes 1.90's in 60' (actually quicker than my old daily driven '95 Camaro LT-1 which had a 1.98 short time on a 13.88 @ 97 mph run). Olds was 1.95 on a 15.01, 89 mph pass at 3,500 pounds. I think the old BF/S turbo Sunbird (110 cid, 150/150 hp) I drove for Billy Nees went low 1.90's running 14.1's in the 1/4 at 2,600 pounds.

Re: Low-HP Short Time?
My boy has a Aspen wagon that run N/O/P. It generally run Mid 1.5s
at O Weight (3650). It has run a Best of 1.498 at N Weight (3540) at Pomona last year. Small Valve Low Po 318 @ 230 HP. ProTrans made a ton of difference with straight cut Very LOW Gear! NOT inexpensive but it made a huge difference in performance and worth every penny!! |
Re: Low-HP Short Time?
Rob my car using the trans brake went mostly low 1.7's in decent air. Using the footbrake I slowed to low to mid 1.8's in good air.
When I put the 22" tires on low 1.9's are about as good as I've gone. Haven't tried them in real good air. With my car air makes a world of difference in the short times. The turbo might make up some air difference though. If I remember correctly I was 1.7's most of the time with the Turbo car. |
Re: Low-HP Short Time?
My E/PS 83 Camaro has 1.67's at 3240 lbs. I just got it this past fall and have not had much time to experiment, but I don't think there's much left in it.

Re: Low-HP Short Time?
Ok, thanks guys. So far it seems like my mid 1.7's are pretty good for a FWD ~180hp car.
I had a few ideas to try and improve that (IE, better struts/shocks, but they're spendy). But, it seems like I probably won't see much improvement there. |

The M&H's work better but still about 30' out in good air I would spin. If I could have had better boost control I could have gone quicker. I could hook at the line so I don't think suspension (other than super long wheelie bars) will work. |

I was also considering wheeling bars - or more correctly, for a FWD car, wheelbase extenders. |
