Uneven tire wear

So getting ready to replace my old Hoosier 30x9x15 part# 18209c06 mounted on 10 inch rims with a new pair, same tires, when I noticed that I have alot more wear in the center of the tire than the outer edges. In other words I can just barely see the wear indicator in the center, where the wear indicators are more noticeable. I run the tires with 22.5 lbs of air consistantly. Is this a normal condition, or would less air promote a more even wear pattern?

Less air would make them flatter. But if it's faster with more air.......

Mark,
As Ed said, less air would make them flatter... more even wear.
But also as Ed said, more air is usually faster.
So... are you having any issues with traction? If yes, then drop the pressure down to the 18 lb range, and see what it does to help you.
Also, if you just want to try to get a little more life out of them, you could drop pressure a little, but this is probably just minimal difference in the life of the tire.
Since you were going back with same tires, I am guessing you are pretty happy with the set up, and performance. Instead of losing your data from all the other runs by chaning something, I would just line up and race, with my same set up!
Good luck,
Ken

Keep the rpm down a bit in the burn out. Keeps the tite flatter and won't wear the center of The tire as fast.

Mark If you bought your tires from Town Fair Tire you should bring your car in every few months and have them rotate the tires around. You will get a lot more miles out of them this way. Sorry I just couldn't resist. Barry

My powerglide is not equipped with the optional 3rd gear. By the way burnouts are at 5000 rpm. I'm going to try the tires at 18 lbs of air and go up from there. The car always hooks at 22.5 just concerned that I'm not really getting a full contact. I must admit that a few years back I was using an 8 inch rim and the uneven wear was more noticeable. It has improved with the 10s .
