Dual caliper rear brakes
Any of you stock elim. guys/gals using a dual caliper rear brake set-up and why? More holding force when staging the car? Thanks

Re: Dual caliper rear brakes
Yes to the first question and it holds better at the line for me.

Re: Dual caliper rear brakes
I always had trouble holding our car on the line since replacing the drum brakes with Strange disk brakes all around. Since adding the second rear caliber it holds very well.
The car is a 69 Barracuda. |
Re: Dual caliper rear brakes
Thanks for the info. So is the procedure to pre-stage, press the brake pedal to a given pressure, engage a 2-step set at an RPM low enough to be able to go WOT off the line? I see a lot of stock elim cars bouncing back and forth during the staging process, but they seem to leave against the 2-step.

Re: Dual caliper rear brakes
You do not want more brake on the rear than the front. Good way to swap ends if you have to lock them up. I have single Aerospace calipers all the way around. I can stall it well over 3000 RPM with the foot brake with no problems. You may have the wrong master cylinder, or wrong pedal ratio.

Re: Dual caliper rear brakes
Thanks Ed ................good input. My experience has been in SS so leave off the tranny brake and let her eat. Now with getting back into stock eliminator need to learn new ways of staging/leaving.

Just bought his master cylinder kit and firewall brace for my model car, and followed the enclosed instructions for re-drilling my pedal. |
Re: Dual caliper rear brakes
Maybe I am missing something, but if you are using a LL it is only active for the front brakes and staging the car. What would it matter if you had 8 rear caliper brakes on the rear? Just a curious 3 pedal racer.

Re: Dual caliper rear brakes
whoooooaaa! i get it. forget i said anything.
i thought the new craze of 6 and 8 piston calipers where for down the top end.....but not so much it seems. i want to try this now, damn snow....i can bring the rpm up to 4800 now, should able to hit mid 5k with more brake. i still only launch at 3400 during the bracket race, but qualifying would be more fun!
