SBC Dart block question---?
Gotta question on a Dart block-the NHRA legal replacement legal in Stock. I had all the machine work done at Tri City in Vista,(a stellular enterprise if there ever was one, thanks Gregg),installed the cam, assembled the short block, and the cam lobes don't line up with the lifter bores with the chain set I used. It's the same chain set for a factory 327 or 350 block of that age. Does the Dart block require a different roller chain set, also I noticed provisions for a front thrust plate for the OEM later steel roller cams. Is there a later chain set with a different offset or something that would make this work? Just thought I'd ask.

Re: SBC Dart block question---?
No, shim behind, or in front of the gear, and push it in, or out, whichever is needed. There is no special gear. There are shims from different type drives that will work.

Re: SBC Dart block question---?
A easy way to check is look @ the chain w/ cam gear against block and see if it is in line w/crank gear, you may have to remove the chain and lay a straight edge across cam/crank gears,if it is out of line you will most likely break the chain pretty quick if is enough out of line it can have lifters hit sides of next cam lobe.
if is outta line have find where problem is and correct it Mike Taylor 3601 |
