Cutting fiberglass
I need to make some changes to a fiberglass hood. But I'm not sure what tool to use to cut it.I thought about using a Dremel with a reinforced cut off wheel.Any suggestions or advice?

Re: Cutting fiberglass
A rotary cutoff wheel (Dremel), a reciprocating saw or hand saw works. Make sure your in a well ventilated area (outside?) and suit up (cover all exposed skin) wear a mask ,if you can do it on a cool day it helps minimize the itchiness of the fiberglass. Mark your area and make rough cuts and then fine tune with hand sand paper or file.

Re: Cutting fiberglass
X2 on Dion's suggestions.
Also, I have covered cut lines with duct tape, both top and bottom before. Helped keep edge cleaner... Just peel off toward the cut, when done. Little less dust also. Good luck Ken |
Re: Cutting fiberglass
Thank you for the advice.I worked up the nerve to make the cuts and it worked great.

Re: Cutting fiberglass
The rotary cutoff wheel will leave a nicer edge
