Harrison NY, NY CITY people need help
I'm picking a car up in Harrison NY Wednesday and I'm not sure the best way to go, Ill be coming up 95 but I know the tolls and roads will kill you if you don't know what your doing. Ill be in a Cummings dodge truck with a 28foot ATC, any help would be appreciated as far as which route to take. Also if someone wants to make a few dollars and drive the car 100 miles or so south of there and meet me in New Jersey somewhere I'm game.

Herbjr , it really is not as bad as everybody makes it up to be. The best advice I can give you is to come in early. EARLY means getting over the George Washington Bridge by 6 am. I assume you are coming from the south so just take the most direct route to the GWB and time it to be in the Bronx around sunrise. Follow the signs for 95N (Cross Bronx Expressway ) towards Boston. If you have a GPS , have the address plugged in as they work well up here. If you hit any slowdowns it will be around Country club Rd to Pelham Parkway. After that you should have a good ride to Harrison on 95, about 20 minutes. Tolls will be NJ Turnpike , GW Bridge and New Rochelle toll in Westchester . The roads aren't the greatest but just put in the middle lane and drive accordingly. If you have a CB radio, asking directions on 19 will get answers . It is a straight shot to where you have to go. If I was not working, I would meet you and act as your guide. Any questions feel free to ask. I believe the Harrison exit is 19 on 95N in Westchester.

Re: Harrison NY, NY CITY people need help
Remember one thing, the people in NY do not know what the word Yield means.
Made the trip up there the first of April what a joke. Spent over $100.00 in tolls. Hammer |
Re: Harrison NY, NY CITY people need help
When I go up to CT from NJ I almost always take the Tappan Zee Bridge over the Hudson. It depends on what time you go, but if you go on I-287 you will have some traffic but it will not be as horrendous as the GWB. One "plus" is that 287 ends just north of Harrison and the only toll on 287 is crossing the TZB headed east (no toll westbound).
**edit I just noticed on the sidebar it says you are from Greensboro. Have you considered taking I-81 to avoid tolls? That's how I went to Charlotte from northern NJ (well part of my trip that is). If you consider I-81 you take that to I-80 in PA, head east into NJ then that meets up with I-287 halfway across NJ. |

Re: Harrison NY, NY CITY people need help
I'm going up 81 to 78 to 287, I saw 95 was near there but I'm actually leaving from Charlotte NC. Ill return back to Greensboro but will go 81 back, its 40 miles longer but quicker with DC traffic.
Thanks |

The way you are going is the best in the way of time and tolls. The NJ tolls alone will kill you. When coming from 287 you will see signs for NY south and Harrison is only about 7 miles down. Also you can go back the same way or go over the GW depending the time of day. Have to watch the cross Bronx expressway for traffic. Bob Lasko |
