Re: Ss trans cooler & lines
You probably have got no response to this since so few S/SS cars actually run a cooler on their cars.
Most just run a loop on the cooler lines. If you feel you must have a cooler , look at the ones Derale Performance. Very strong and efficent ,with pipe thread bosses to use AN or JIC type fittings. I have my cooler lines for the cars I build made by a shop that makes Hydraulic lines. Crimped on ends and hose that is made for hot oil and extreme conditions. The outlet temp from the converter to the cooler can approach 300 deg. ,regular braided hose is not up to the job for the long haul. |

Re: Ss trans cooler & lines
Like Tom said, both my Rossler and Pro Trans have the cooler fitting holes in the case plugged. Looped internally. Have not had a cooler for years.

Re: Ss trans cooler & lines
Hello again Richie 2, I run a cooler on my BBC Th400 equipped Monza. It is a Long Mfr (i think) model that is the stacked plate design and I ordered a model that would accept the common 3/8" steel "brake line" type lines. i can dig up the part number if you are interested.

Re: Ss trans cooler & lines
no worrys tim thankyou. Toms suggested DERAIL units will work fine. they are very affordable from JEGS and have AN fittings for use with either a steel line or hyd. fittings. we're gonna' go with that.

Re: Ss trans cooler & lines
Tom is right. You probably don't need one. However, if you are like me, I like the extra insurance. I have a radiator with an in tank transmission cooler. I like the in tank type cooler because it will put heat the trans fluid quicker because the cooler gets washed with engine water/coolant. Also, the in tank cooler is more efficient than an external air to oil cooler by about 2 degrees F. We use a braided steel line from the radiator to the transmission with Jiffy-Tite Quick Connects at the transmission. The QC's are real convenient when you have to pull the motor or transmission. No mess.
