race oil and how much?
I'm changing fluids on our B/PS '04 Corvette and would like to try some race oil. The engine, other than the cam and springs, is completely stock (55,000 miles). What would be a good race oil for the LS1 and how many quarts should I run? The stock capacity is 6 quarts and I've always used Mobil 1 per factory recommendations when we drove it on the street. Now that we trailer it and only race is there ET to be gained? Thanks for any advice.

Re: race oil and how much?
I'd keep using Mobil 1, considering the stock bottom end

Re: race oil and how much?
i would try 5w20 mobil 1 synthetic 5 qts vs 6 to see if it makes a difference. There isn't much to be gained due to the crankshaft and oil pan design.

Re: race oil and how much?
Just have to make sure you don't clog the cat converter with an oil that has too many off road additives

Steve:
We are lucky with our engines. Any full synthetic works great..! Two reasons: Roller Lifters and Stock spring Pressure. Which means a lot for reliability. There maybe a hundredth or 2 between brands. There is more ET in the car with your wife driving :D Dan |
