396/325 combo
I'm in the process of putting together a 67 Camaro for stock eliminator and was wondering about this particular combo. what would be the pro's and con's of building this particular motor. first which heads would be better for this combo as well as intake. And is this combo hard to make run under the index? I'm leaning towards a stick for a tranny. any advice would greatly appreciated thanks in advance...

Re: 396/325 combo
CamCam the 396 325 isnt to hard to make run the index. CP pistons tri city rings bullet cam 290 hetler heads ,good 350 4.56 gears. Now you can spend more and go faster. this should be a base line. J Hanig

Re: 396/325 combo
What style of intake do you have? We have to use that heavy cast iron flat intake where the runners look like at one point have to run up hill. If our intake had a conventional rise it our motor would make 30 more HP.
If you have to use this same intake it is definately a minus. We are running a 402 which is the same as the 396 CI. CP and Venolia have a good piston and I was told possibly Diamond will soon be supplying a BB Chevy Piston. We use Diamond push rods (nice merchandise). I think Dan Fletcher runs a 396/325 in his Camaro and doesn't do too bad. I do see you having any problems with running .80-.90 under the index. |

i ran this combo in my 1968 impala I/S stick car. Ran 11.70's which at that time was 7-8 tenths under. 113-115 MPH (117.00 in H/S) Used CP pistons, Bullit cam w Shubeck lifters, 290 heads (largest intake volume of the available allowed heads-Corvette 427-390 heads I believe) Building a 1965 Impala now with the same motor. My impala weighed 4095 in I/S, take 800 pounds out of that and do the math.

Re: 396/325 combo
If you want to run the car with a stick you might want to look at the 375 HP combo less nose weight with some of the killer after market alum parts(heads&intake) plus holley carb. There is a 350 hp combo runs well in div1 . My car with stick would be differant for shore . What first gear ratio will you run with a 4:30 rear ?

396/350 not available in the '67 Camaro.

Re: 396/325 combo
67 396/325 will only be allowed the 948 Cast Iron Qjet intake, it is a high rise. You will want an SS hood above for a little more air space.
