Seeking Trans Builder for 4L60E

Division one IHRA season is over.
Have 4 years of racing on the 4L60E trans and time to get it refreshed for next year.

The current one was built by Shane Cobb - Carolina Performance Transmission. It performed very well.

Unfortunately he is out of business now looking for a new competent builder.

4L60E has its unique weaknesses and strengths and need someone who knows how to build a robust unit.

Try Wayne Rogers at Rogers Automotive in Chantilly, Va. 703-631-4242 for years.

He's built all of my race/street units(PG,350, 400, 700r4...) for many years with great results and he's close to you.

Thanks Mike:
Going to upgrade and buy a new YankSS4200 replacing an excellent YankSS3800.

Know it will pick up a solid tenth or better.
Will hold on to the SS3800 for a 383 Bracket Car Project that may develop.

I will check with Performance Automatic in Gaithersburg and Rogers Automotive.

Seems there are those that know how make the 4L60E work.

Contacted ATI yesterday and told me they really do not like working on those transmissions.

Preferring their T350, T400 and PG's

Dan

Dan,

I'm sure you've done this but have you posted on the Impala forum as well? I know there are some pretty fast cars still running the 4L60E that haven't switched to a TH400 yet. Being that your car is "slightly" heavier than most that offers some unique challenges in a transmission.

Sad to hear that Shane is out of business. He did one for me as well once upon a time.

YEAH...contacted several companies. Disappointed with ATI.
$1750 seems to be the competitive price for a Stage II Build (450hp)
One companies is at $2200 for a Stage III build (550hp).

Shane got a bad rap on a few mistakes. He did me right and many others.
May go back to Fourcade Trans since they are more local in Gaithersburg.

Love the 4L60E for my plus sized heavy car....
Basically a 3.08 low gear T350 with OD and with electronics.
Have been on ImpalaSSforum and did not find any new information.

BTW added a new 1995 C/PS Firebird to the Pure Stock Pictures.

Very cool Firebird Dan! Great addition to the gallery. That looks exactly like one I built about 7 years ago when I lived in Morehead City, NC and then sold to Al Brister before I ran it. I don't believe that he ran it either. I don't know where it ended up but wonder if it is the same car. ??? That's a great body style (especially with the WS6 hood) and I still have a fondness for the wonderful LT1.

Not to hijack your transmission thread but speaking of the Pure Stock gallery do you mind changing my photo? I sold the black/silver wheels (hated them!) and have added Bogarts. Maybe you could use on of the driveway pictures in the gallery? I would appreciate it. If you can't use one of these I'll email them to you. I've since removed all of the decals as I believe IHRA is going to want them down on the side and there are only about 5 that pay contigency so those are the only ones I'll put back on before we class race.

Thanks Dan and keep us up to date on the transmission.
