SRAC News From Mike Crutchfield 7/17/13

SRAC UPDATE
Hey everyone
On June 16th 2013 the SRAC had a conference call to discuss several issues
In attendance were the 7 division SRAC members and the following people representing NHRA.
Dave Mohn,Bob Lang,Glen Gray and Josh Peterson
As you have probably noticed recently NHRA has made a great effort to be more sensitive to the Sportsman racers. With the attendance and interaction in our meeting by Josh and Glen show they are very concerned with our issues and how to improve Sportsman racing. With the National event schedule change and the NEW parade of Sportsman Champion before the PRO finals they are headed in a very positive direction for the Sportsman.
The first topic of discussion was the wheelie bar notches for the Stock and regular Super Stock cars. After input from all of the members a vote by divisions showed a unanimous yes to allow the notches much like the rule in GT. NHRA took it under advisement and will make a decision very soon hopefully before Indy .
A good portion of the meeting was about the Fines and Penalties related to technical violations and racers conduct. The substance abuse part of the policy will remain as should at ZERO tolerance. All of the SRAC members were concerned that the fines were too much. Glen and Josh was very interested in the councils input and how we could help them come up with a more fair formula to calculate fines and suspensions for the Sportsman verses the Pro’s. Glen shared with use that when he was at INDY Car they never suspended racers they just fined them and took points. I think there was some agreement that the Sportsman process should be different than the Pro’s. Again NHRA accepted our input as constructive and will take it under advisement going forward.
There were a few other questions as follows.
Extending expire dates for Seat belts to 3 years. This is controlled by SFI and probably no changes can be made but they will check.
Aftermarket direct replacement radiators in Stock. This will be considered and they will let us know.
Factory shootout weight breaks will be evaluated for next year with the intent to have better parity between car brands and combinations.
Evaluate AHFS for a mineshaft conditions policy much like the Comp policy will be considered and they will let us know.
NHRA is accepting ideas for rules changes for next year. This is another effort by them to make the Sport better for the Sportsman Racers. Please feel free to email your ideas to Bruce @bbachelder@nhra.com and copy me if you wish.
This email is intended for this group, of ACTIVE NHRA Stock and Super Stock racers so please do not post it on any bulletin boards or public or social media sites.
As always please let me know if there is any questions or I can help with anything.
Thanks
Mike Crutchfield
Division 2 Stock/Super Stock SRAC member

We've got an excellent SRAC rep in Mike Crutchfield, and he is doing his best for us. The least we can do is respect his request and NOT POST THE UPDATES ON THE FORUM.

Mike obviously has a reason for this, and if we don't respect that we might lose a very respected voice for us sportsman racers.

You will not find a more ardent supporter of the job that Mike is doing than Jim Wahl. Jim either made a simple mistake or had the express permission of Mike to post it here. I'm sure will enlighten everyone when he jumps back on the forum.

Think Mike does a fantastic job, also bet he doesn't need input from 1320racer or a bunch of anonymous class racer wanne-be's.

When Mike says "Hey everyone" he is talking to current stock and superstock racers.

I have Mike's permission as well as Ken's to post this for all of us racers to see. It seems as if none of the other SRAC members wish to let you guys know what is going on. Mike does! Jim
