Car Sales

I always see plenty of cars for sale here, Is there any market for a Super Stock Camaro right now? I have a '68 I'd like to sell and don't know if marketing it now will be a waste of time or not. Is anybody buying race cars today. My car is very nice, and I don't want to give it away. - Tom

Re: Car Sales

Older cars, unless they're real nice, and real fast, are not bringing big money, and the cars that are real nice and real fast, take time to sell for big money.

An example would be Ralph Popora's 69 Camaro stocker, it's a real nice car, and a rocket, but he had it for sale for at least 2 years before it sold recently. I think Lynn Engel had Jimmy Bridges' 68 SS/E Camaro for sale for quite a while, long enough that when we needed an engine in a hurry, we bought the spare that Lynn had for that car. Michael Kilduff just bought the car earlier this year, and we've had the engine since late 2010.

And the best thing is advertising in the For Sale section is free. What do you have to lose?

The car is truly nice. I'm willing to be reasonable, but as I already said, I'm not giving it away. Thanks for your replies. I am going to put it on the classified site. - Tom

Re: Car Sales

I see a lot of marketing flaws when I see cars and parts for sale. I often think half of the problem is not the economy, it's the poor marketing that hurts the most.

Put some pictures in the ad, not a suggestion as to where to find pictures of the car. You should have a front 3/4, a rear 3/4, an under hood and interior. If you don't know how to put a picture in the ad, ask for help.

Put a price in the ad. Fishing for offers is not the way to sell something!

Details on the entire car. Don't write a book, keep it simple. But if you've got Oliver Rods or something comparable, mention it. The guy selling the '68 Camaro just like yours may have Chinese rods in it and that may make your ad a notch higher.

List any awards or career hi-lites.

Good luck!

I agree 100% with what Jeff Lee has suggested for a successful ad; especially the bit about the price.Putting a price in your ad saves both the seller and prospective buyers from wasting time on calls or emails when there is no chance that they'll come to a deal.

The only other thing that I would suggest is to put where you are located in the ad.
