How do you get Hp and not go 1.20 under

In case anyone messed it the 2012 CJ got 20 hp today and not a single 2012 SS/AAA car went 1.20 under at Indy ? Now we have been told that we are getting 2 tenths taken off our index as well because the 2010 CJ's of Skillman and Candies went 1.26 under and cant race and more because of weight 638hp x5.5 = 3509 +170 = 3679 which is not SFI approved weight

The 2010 car did this they should be penalized not 2012 cars

Everyone should LYAO at us dumb *ss Ford super stock CJ owners . This is so messed up even if we got 20hp by magic thats only 5.5 x 20=110lbs not 2 tenths index .

Bo,
That was yesterday's news. Today they went back I believe.

Horsepower adjustments following the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals
As the result of runs under the Automatic Horsepower Factoring System (AHFS) 1.20-second under policy at the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals, the following changes have been made.

The horsepower rating for 2010 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet, entries with the 330 cubic inch engine and a factory rating of 500 currently rated at 636, has been decreased by twenty six horsepower, to 609 horsepower; for Super Stock Eliminator.

As a result of an error found in the race data, the horsepower rating for 2012 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet, entries with the 330 cubic inch engine and a factory rating of 510 recently rated at 608, has been decreased by twenty horsepower back to its previous rating of 588 horsepower; for Super Stock Eliminator.

The index for SS/AAA has been decreased by .2 tenths to 9.20.
NHRA's 2013 Automatic Horsepower Factoring System outlines that any run of 1.20-seconds or more under the index will receive an immediate index decrease or horsepower increase. These changes are effective Sep. 5, 2013.

What really needs to be fixed is the FS/ class indexes Most of the top 20 stockers were in those classes, and they did not have to worry one bit about the AHFS.

Re: How do you get Hp and not go 1.20 under

While we are on screwed up index reductions that reminds me that everyone got several tenths taken off their indexes a few years ago because some illegal cars with worked on combustion chambers went fast, got tossed, and rules were changed to make them legal. Matter of fact, this had been being overlooked for a few years and a run in at teardown at Indy brought this to the conclusion. Sorry to bring this up again but just another case of the illegal cars that should have got suspended were made legal and legal cars ie: (combustion chamber modifications NOT permitted) got punished.

This in no way implies that any of the cars mentioned in this thread are or were illegal in any way. Just an example of index reductions. However....not weighing or fuel checking a heads up final?

At the NHRAracer website they say the 2012 got their 20hp back. AAA/SA index drops to 9.20.

OOPS! Repeat post. Sorry!

I am surprised that nobody has said why SS/AAA went from 9.40 to 9.20.

It is all explained in the AHFS rules. The whole class was fast so the index got hit instead of horsepower.
