9/11

This day still gets to me. Please take a moment to remember, and think of the brave people that defend our freedom every day, and those that have. Still the greatest country on the planet!

That day is one of the ones where I will never forget exactly where I was and what I was doing when the news came over the TV.

Never Forget !!

I was an educator in Eastern NC at the time and was at a conference in Greensboro. I'll never forgot standing in the hotel lobby watching the news on the televisions with complete strangers. They immediately cancelled the conference and I had to drive home. My daily driver was a '66 Chevelle with only an am radio so that's how I listened to the updates for 4 hours on the ride home.

Very sober day today even after all these years.

Thanks for putting up a thread about this day. The attack on Benghazi also happened 1 year ago today. I don't want to go political here, but I'm scared for my country right now and in the days ahead. Not necessarily from attack although that's always a possibility, but from the direction we're going.
Where is the country that my father, and Grandfather and great-grandfather, and back 7 generations fought to defend and maintain the freedom we so enjoy. I'd like it back.
God bless all our service personal and defenders of our freedom.
Walt

I was on the fantail of the CGC Mobile Bay. The cutter was in Cleveland getting some yard work done. I remember looking at the night sky thinking this is the first time in a long time that all I could see where the stars because all aircraft were grounded. And praying that I would never see a night like that again.

I teach at SUNY-Oneonta and we lost seven of our grads on that day. I'd paid fro my comp car on the Saturday before 9/11. The names of our seven grads, together with a rendering of the Twin Towers, and the words "We Will Never Forget" have been on the front of my car since the start of 2003. We've always done well with my comp car at the points race at Englishtown, which always takes place around the anniversary of 9/11, including a runner-up in 2005, a win in 2006, and another win this past Sunday. You can'r help but wonder if seven extra crew members help us do just a little better at that race.

You got that right, the stillness of those following evenings was very unnerving. Every year since then I've made it a point to listen to Alan Jacksons' "where were you when the world quit turning" still gives me chill bumps.

I think about/relive that day almost every day of my life.
Watching what we thought were gulls flying through the flames. We put the glasses on them and realized they were people jumping.
Watch the second plane flying low as they flew over the boat I was on, thing they were going in to take pictures. And that if the a$$h0les weren't careful they would hit the other tower. Then WHAM the world stopped.
That day changed me, and it changed the world
