Nostalgia/SS in the Tri-State S/SS Association

Just a note to all N/SS racers, 2014 will be the second year N/SS are permitted and welcomed in the Tri-State S/SS Association races. Some (many) were unaware of the change for 2013. So I wanted to put a post out there about them. We do our races in Salem Ohio (Quaker City), New Alexandria PA (Pittsburgh Raceway) and Hagerstown MD (Mason-Dixon Dragway). It will likely be a seven or eight race schedule.

Allowable entries based on NMCA and 422 AllStars rules (so if you can race with either/both of them, you can race with us).

Only changes would be, N/SS cars may dial to the nearest hundreth, and CAN change their dial-ins between rounds, and .500 full tree (other series have odd rules about .50 Indexes or only dialing to the nearest .05 or nearest .10 and can NOT change their dial-in after first round. I and others think that is silly, so we changed it that you can dial-in as you wish, and change it--same with everyone else in our Association).

We did have a few that competed with us last year, but not many. As I said, many were unaware that they could.

All information about our Association can be found on here at http://classracer.com/classforum/forumdisplay.php?f=28

So, now you know. Hope you can make it out to race with us in 2014!

Mike,
Can someone send me a schudle and complete rules for N/SS in your series. We have many of BGR cars that may fit and are in the process of building a few new cars to compete in N/SS.
Respectfully,
Bob George.:)

Re: Nostalgia/SS in the Tri-State S/SS Association

Hi Mr George. I will start working on our schedule soon, hopefully. Need to wait for IHRA to release their Divisional schedules. Ideally, we would have three races each at Quaker City and Pittsburgh, and the annual big money two race weekend in Hagerstown MD the first weekend in November (at least $2,000 or more to win for the Sunday race there). No mandatory membership to race with us. If you want to join points, it's $25, the best five of eight, four of seven, etc races would count. We will pay the top three points finishers, unless we get sponsorship as we had last year, then the top five points finishers will receive money. Race entry fee is $100 for stand-alone races; if we have a two race weekend, $50 for one day $100 for the other. Round money starts third round loser, they get their entry fee back. Using a 24 car field, without any additional sponsor money, a $50 entry race pays $650 win, 300 R/U, 100 semis, 50 1/4s. $100 race pays $1,300 win, 600 R/U, 200 semis, 100 1/4's. We had some sponsorship from racers lats year; if we get something similar, the payouts will increase.

Rules are fairly simple, we follow the NMCA and 422 AllStars rules, as far as allowable entries, pretty much the same as the Buckeye S/SS Series of Jeff Ross. So, if a racer has run with any of those groups, they can run with us. Dial-ins are a normal dial-in deal, to the nearest hundreth. I think the 422 deal, you can (or used to?) only dial to the nearest .05 or .10 only (10.40, 10.45 or 10.50), and can not change after first round, the one series in the Midwest ran on .50 Indexes. With us, you can dial anything, and change between rounds. Makes it much fairer I think.

Re: Nostalgia/SS in the Tri-State S/SS Association

Thanks Mike, the reason I'am inquiring for something that I can have at the shop to refrence is that we are building a few new cars for guys that want to run N/SS and they garner information from the site and 422 that seem conflicting or open to different interpitations. This adds to the confusion of the construction of the builds.I wish that I could have something I can put my finger on and say this is the way it should be done.
We just had an issue about trunk floor and wheel tub replacement material as well as tire size and rear suspension. Are they that stringent on trunk floor and other metal replacement panels?I would think that more libral rules and if the car appears period correct that they would accept them and the car count would be greater. Are all cars running 9.50 and faster going to be classified A/FX?We seen different tracks allow many different combinations,is Tri-State going to be flexiable or hold to T on the rules? After all it's still mimics a bracket style race, weather it's to the tenth, hunderedth or dial with changes.???????

I will be looking closely at the rules for the two series whose rules we mimic, and see. As far as trunk, floor, tubs, tire size, etc, we never really worried much about that. We didn't have a lot of N/SS last year, our first year allowing N/SS. Four or less cars at each, some with only 1-2 cars, one with zero (none were 9 second cars, but we really don't classify cars as such (A/FX, A/NSS, B/NSS etc; anything that is a 1960's big block mid-to-full size muscle car (no 'pony cars'), period correct and stock appeaing. One thing we did allow was transbrakes and 2-steps if a racer wishes. The two series we use, as you said, have some conflicting rules. That is why I set our rules a little looser, saying 'If you can run either of those Series, you can run with us', so as not to exclude anyone And while I am not an expert on ALL the N/SS Series that race around the country, I am going to write a set of rules I think is most fair for all, so racers can still run our series, and with other groups as well. As you said, it's all just a basic dial-in race in the end for fun and good money to win. I will be working on that soon, as hell as hopefully starting stuff for our 2014 Season Schedule, as son as IHRA releases their Division 1 and 3 schedules.

Also, if you can do me a favor, e-mail me a list of where/when the bigger Nostalgia meets are, so I can try and avoid confliction with them as well. I know Beaver Springs has two a year or more, and the Chrysler Classic events always seem to draw a lot at Norwalk/Columbus. If you know where/when any of those bigger meets are, let me know. buffdaddy_1302@hotmail.com

Re: Nostalgia/SS in the Tri-State S/SS Association

Look forward to having you guys, Bob!

Rather than re-write any rules, I think it would be better and easier for all to stick with the rule(s) we already have.

"If a car can run, as is, with either the 422 AllStars or NMCA in their N/SS programs, they can race, as is, with the Tri-State S/SS Association".

That way, an existing car from one or both Series can race with us, with no changes needing to be made.

The exception would be years of cars, and make it ' period correct 1970 and older, big block, mid size (or larger) muscle cars welcome' in our series. That way, a '69 or '70 Barracuda, Ford, Chevelle or Buick Grand sport could also compete if they wish.

Edit: This is Mike posting, I borrowed my mother's laptop.

Re: Nostalgia/SS in the Tri-State S/SS Association

As I stated before, It is not to my intent to write/re-write any rules for N/SS. We choose to allow cars that are already legal for one/both existing series. With that said, the basic rules for Nostalgia/SS in our Association will be as follows:

~main rules as far as cars, chassis, etc based on 422 All-stars OR NMCA rules. If you can run with either of them, as is, you can race with us.

~any dial-in permitted, to the nearest hundredth. Dial-ins CAN be changed between rounds. .500 full-tree. 13.00 seconds or quicker.

~ANY period-correct 1970-older big-block, mid-to-full size muscle car.

~period-correct corporate, OEM hood scoop only (no Pro Stock-style scoops); limited to 5" (five inches) or less.

~bracket racing aids limited to transbrake or pedal-mounted two-step only. NO delay boxes, stutter boxes, throttle stops, air/electric shifters, etc. Would prefer cars to be footbrake only.

If I am forgetting something or leaving any issues out, please let me know.
