JR, do yourself a favor, get tool steel lifters. Smith lifters will kill your engine.

Thanks for the number

John exactly what happened in your situation? What do you think happened??

In the last 10 years, I've run a total of 5 sets of Schubecks and 1 set of Smith lifters and have never had a problem. I also stayed on top of valve lash adjustment and never ran low spring pressure, but then again all my cams that I get from Spiro Jannings @ Red Line Race Cams are non-aggressive lobe designs.

While I have heard of people having problems from loose valve adjustments, and of course the "bull-nosed" aggressive lobe designs that do make more power........for awhile, I have never had a problem. I do realize that I have been fortunate and lucky, as some people do have problems with the ceramic lifters.

Its the opening of the valve with these aggressive lobes that causes the majority of problems in this area.
But that's just MHO. So what happened in your case??

Take care

RJ

Very good info. Have been thinking about this type of lifter for a while.

JR, the same thing happened to me. Ceramic part of the lifter came apart and hurt a brand new engine. Mega damage to the block and 4 pistons, cam etc. from now on it is tool steel lifters. My Shubeck lifters are still working.

I just had a Schubeck lifter fail, I got lucky enough to get to the ingition switch and shut the engine off, The damage stayed on on 2 cyclinders, will probably sleeve the blockto fix it, no particals got into the oiling system. What happened to mine was the pucks broke off the bottom of 2 lifters. I will never use a Schubeck style lifter ever again. That was my going to be the last race on that engine, the lifters made that for certain.

So do you know why it shattered yet, springs, valve float, rocker adjustment, ect, ect just curious.I had one shatter but it only took a good hone and new pistons another camshaft lifters to get it back but I have been thinking about taking them out seeing how the cam broken in now.

The pucks broke away from the bottom of the lifter. There was no material attached to the lifter. I know from the past that if they float they break, this doesn't look anything like the last ones that broke.
