Gauges 5 & 6?

Tach, oil pressure, water temp and voltmeter - these gauges are common to most, if not all sportsman cars. If consideration is being given to additional instruments which ones would you be adding? Which functions when monitored can deliver the most benefit towards consistent outcomes?

For consistency, smart money is on monitoring engine oil and trans fluid temps.

I would have to say fuel pressure would be a good addition.

Re: Gauges 5 & 6?

i run a water temp guage and a brake pressure gauge in my stocker. the Brake gauge is only for setting the pressure light between rounds. i don't monitor oil temp, i like to keep it hot, am actually contemplating adding diapers to the cars this year for saftey and to keep oil temps hot! I had even removed the tach from the cockpit, but put it back in when the "hired gun" came on board. I don't run an oil pressure gauge because when i blew up the engine a few years back, the oil pressure gauge was still slowly falling after the engine had selfdistructed!!!! if it makes good pressure on the dyno, change the oil often and check the pressure again the following year, on the dyno. If you havn't bought any gauges yet and are thinking of going to electronic gauges, compare the pricing of a race pak or autometer dash with memory. The end price won't be far off if you are going to run 5 or 6 gauges.

Better to log that versus RPM, instead of watching a gauge.

No RacePak for me Mr. Hill - already have the aforementioned Autometer assortment. I already committed to a trans temp gauge; looking for staging consistency and was curious to see what the majority were favoring.

Good point Ed, but then you need a data logger.
Try this instead, velcro your cell phone to your harness, aim it at your tach and wideband and shoot a video of the pass.
That is called a redneck racepak.
