D.O.T. in Illinois

Heard that a racer got pulled over by the DOT in Illinois on his way home from the US Class Nationals. They only gave him a warning, but said that he needed a CDL and to stop at all the scales. This was in a pickup truck with a living quarters trailer! Anybody else having any trouble from DOT?

I've heard Arizona has been hitting the sprint car guys lately.

Being an IL resident I have never heard of this happening. I know lots of guys towing around the state and never an issue.

Where did he get caught? There is a Truck enforcement officer down here in southern IL. That seems to be turning into our own version of Michigan's Trooper of the year Barry Archer. He has pulled me over several times to the point that by now he should remember me and know I am registered RV and have my CDL number memorized. I still do not stop at scale houses with my toter / stacker. The sign says all TRUCKS over 8 tons must stop. Says nothing about RV's.

This seems to get worse and worse with the DOT police, pretty soon we will all have to go back to towing with a plain old pickup and a open trailer.

I havd not had any issues in Illinois, but if you could get me specifics as to where it happened and if there was a written warning, an officer name, I can check with a person in the Illinois DOT.

we have been all over the state Larry especially when we still lived there, pulled into dozens of weigh stations with our two car trailer and were waved through EVERY TIME and told to never stop and waste their time again. We've only had trouble in MI,WI,KY,MN, IA, and Canada

Larry i have a class A cdl in Illinois for the farm and when i licensed my living quarters trailer through the license branch. They told me if i didnt have 4 out 6 requirements for RV plates i would be required to stop in weighstations because of the weight of the trailer and number of axles. Never have been stop in Illinois with my trailer but nothing would surprise me with our state as broke as Illinois is. The only thing i quit doing was carrying barrels of race fuel in my trailer because i dont have hazmats to carry fuel and all you need for 4 of requirements is shower, frig, air conditioner and generator

As long as you are not carrying or have the capacity to carry more than 119 gallons of gas you are not required to have hazmat.
