Hoosier Radial ?
I am currently running the 30 x 9 Hoosier radials on my super stocker (GT/LA). Up until now i just foot braked the car, now i am starting to use a trans brake. My question is does the radial tire hook the same with the trans brake shocking the suspension as it would foot braking where the suspension is loaded? On my couple test passes i blew the tires off, dropped a little more air pressure in the tires and it did the same. Any advice would be great, thanks!!

Re: Hoosier Radial ?
Radials work fine with Trans brakes in SS. That is what most people use, unless trying to slow the car down. 9" is a tad small.

Re: Hoosier Radial ?
As noted, radials are faster and 9" is on the narrow side. But they are also more "sensitive" to track conditions than bias ply slicks. Adding the trans-brake launch can be putting more "responsibility" on track prep. Perhaps some suspension tuning could help, like stiffening the rear shocks.

Re: Hoosier Radial ?
Soften the rear shocks for a questionable track.......stiffen them up a little if the track has grip. Additionally, the trans brake will provide an immediate lift to the front, as compared to foot braking. Very important to have the proper front shocks as well. Stay at around 20 psi with the 9 inch radials (Ed may disagree, he has more experience with them)......and adjust the shocks.

Re: Hoosier Radial ?
When I was running my car, 66 chevy II 283 SS/LA 3200 lb with a brake on 9 in tire at 23 lb air and right foot to the floor 6500 rpm I had a few problems hooking at hot tracks. I ended up chiping it down to 5700,and had sixty foots in the high 1.30s. had to do some ajustments to shocks but it still worked well. Tom

Re: Hoosier Radial ?
Get Mickey Thompson radials! They hook anywhere!!

Re: Hoosier Radial ?
How many passes do you guys get out of them before they need to be replaced?
|
Re: Hoosier Radial ?
We run them ( 9 inch ) down to end of the hole on our GT/IA.
Usually 50 to 60 passes. |
Re: Hoosier Radial ?
I put 199 passes on my last pair. No cords probably could have gotten a few more outta them.

Re: Hoosier Radial ?
We ran Hoosiers on our T/S car few years back and we rotated side to side every 10 passes, would think with any size slick paying attention to the details counts, JMO
