S-10 Chevy in SS GT weight math
 

Racers,

please help me with the race weight of this combination

*2000 Chevy S-10 in SS GT

*327/300 @ 293 horse power factor[runs the 585 CFM Holley]

and

*327/275 @ 299 horse power factor[runs with a Q-jet]

I "think" it will run in truck class "B" which is 10.5 pounds per factored horse power less (250 pounds allowed for automatic trans] plus 170 for driver

So, is this correct, using the 293 factor as an example

293 x 10.5 = 3077 less -250 class allowance = 2827 + 170 driver = 2997 race ready with driver. I am correct?

The 250 lbs is only used for adding or substracting on the shipping weight so you can move up or down in a class. Looking at your shipping weight and using the 250 lb rule, your truck fits A or B . At B race weight if your motor is rated at 293 HP you would multiply 293 hp x the weight break of 10.5 plus add 170 lbs for driver. In B you would have to weigh 3,246.5 rounded to 3,240 is least you can be at the scales.

Herbie, as I read the rule [and we need to double check this] the SS GT race trucks are in deed allowed to run 250 pounds light.

The rule book says, "trucks running with automatic transmission are allow 250 pound weight removal, that is to say, truck can run 250 pounds light for it's class"

Can someone verify I am interpreting this statement correctly?

I believe for GT truck you get a 250lb or 5% weight break which ever is less for an automatic. Factored hp x weight break minus 5% plus 170lbs for driver. 293x10.5=3076.5-153=2923.5+170=3093.5 rounding down to a min weight of 3090lbs.

Hans,

a 2000 Chevy S-10 with base 4 cylinder shows 2930 pounds on the NHRA guide. Please help with this, I do have conflicting feedback about the as raced weight for the SS GT truck classes.

Also, please check the SS GT rule book in ref to a 250 pound weight removal allowed for trucks with automatic trans. To me, the rule reads, "trucks with auto trans are allow to run 250 lighter than class weight"

GT trucks with automatics get both - 250 lbs to adjust up or down plus can run up to
250 lbs (OR 5% whichever is less ) light for having an automatic.

After reading the rule book, I would say this is dead on the dial. Sorry did not realize about the break for running an automatic, but it makes since now. 3090 lbs

Shipping weight must be with the heaviest engine and trans for that year and model.

Le, Thanks, your math seems correct to me. I over looked the 5% and that is important because it makes about 100 pounds difference. [heavier] than my math.

I "think" it will require some ballast to put the S-10 at 3100 race pounds but with the truck chassis the weight placement most likely will be a traction advantage.

Besides, we have a "heavy" driver :)
