Question about converter
 

I was just curious for the guys using 3 speed automatics how much stall are you running. How do you decide how much to run.
Do you go so many rpms over peak torque, or so many rpms under shift point, how do you choose.

Looking for help with my bracket car. I have been told take mine is both to loose and to tight depends on who you talk to.
Have been told that looser is more consistent but not as fast by some, but also been told that looser is faster by others.

I would call ATI, tell them what you have & are doing with the car, and buy what they recommend. There is a lot more to it than stall speed.

I was kinda looking for examples of what you guys are doing, nothing like real world experience.
I mean is your stall 1500 rpm under shift rpm or maybe 1000 under or some other number.
Or do you know where you make peak torque so your stall is 300 above that or 500 or some other number.
What method do you use to decide.

From a bracket racing perspective, contact either Blue Streak or ATI. Every combo is different. Who is telling you it is too loose? Some guy in the pits or your engine builder. I wouldnt listen to either of them. Marty Rinehart hooked me up with my ATI TreeMaster and I havent looked back.

You will need to know your approx peak torque RPM and then they can work with your existing ET incrementals and car weight, etc. Some converter mfrs include 1 free re-stall within xx days, so you can make an adjustment if you need one.
You get what you pay for....avoid the freaky stuff ;)

I had a loose ATI, flash stall in 3rd approx 5400. I liked the et's but had reaction concerns. I tried a tighter conv and had good reaction but slowed a few hundredths. I called ATI and had a conv built for my low power 350 and I'm amazed. car reacts better and runs quicker. Flash stall is approx the same but no comparison in performance. My method is now to call ATI, I wasted time and money with other converters and having them reworked.

3rd Gen Camaro, 2940lbs, 355 flat top iron Sportsman heads solid flat tappet 252/260@.050 540/560, turbo 350, 4.50 gears, 29x10.5W Hoosiers has had 29x12 Hoosiers and 28.5x11.5 Phoenix. Frt suspension is stock rear is a Southside machine kit with a 9". basically non adjustable ladder bars with subframe connectors and DA Afco shocks.
It has a best 60' of 1.42 and best et of 6.83 with my previous TCI converter in good weather. I installed the ATI converter a couple of weeks ago and it's gone 6.90 and 6.91 repeatedly in hot humid weather when everyone sles slowed, so i can't wait for fall.
I had my TCI worked on 2x mostly looking for reaction improvement. I tried a mis match ATI and reaction was noticeably better. New ATI reacts just like what I was looking for and yet et's better, best of both worlds.

so where do you shift at and what is the stall of the new ATI

Shifting at 6200, goes thru the 1/8th at 5700. I haven't even tried to flash stall this converter, If i remember i'll try tonight.
