Confused

I just read this posted on the tech section, then read it again, then one more time. My definition of leaving the "staging area" is when I'm paired to race before the water box. Now they say it's before the staging lanes but the rule says before the vehicle leaves the staging area...

Stock and Super Stock Staging lane Rule Reminder
This is a reminder to all Stock and Super Stock Racers that prior to reaching the head of the staging lanes all ice, towels, rags, etc must be removed per the 2014 NHRA Rulebook General Regulations, Section 20, page 5, Fuel /Air –

Fuel/Air: Any method of artificially cooling or heating fuel prohibited (i.e., cool cans, Freon, wet rags, etc.), except as noted in Class Requirements. Cool cans, wet towels, etc. are permitted in Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, and E.T. classes. Wet towels, rags, ice, etc. must be removed before vehicle leaves staging area. Ambient- temperature air only; cooling or otherwise changing the conditions of the intake air is prohibited. Spraying of intake with any artificial spray or coolant prohibited.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Tim

Re: Confused

I'm glad you posted that. I've used ice bags every time I've ever had a heads up or class race.

Depends on what you consider the head and the tail. Sounds good to me.

Re: Confused

Would have been much clearer to say either prior to entering staging lanes or before leaving staging lanes. Is anyone actually removing ice or towels in the burnout water area?

We had this question also so prior to the Allstars final in Joliet I went to all the tech guys and asked. I was told EVERYTHING had to be off prior to going INTO the staging lanes. No bags of ice, no cold towels or anything.

Never been told that. We've had ice and towels on the intake right up until it was started to go to the water.

That was how it used to be until this new rule was started.

Quite sure that they are icing in the lanes at Indy...

Re: Confused

on my past experience, since I am the ice man on the car. @ Baytown (national event) was told no ice past the stripe in the back of the staging lanes (beginning). @ No Problem (divisional) was told no ice past the stripe leaving the staging lanes - the same stripe after crossing that dial-ins cannot be changed.

Re: Confused

It's as clear as can be to me. The 3rd sentence from the end says all artificial cooling must be removed before leaving staging area. I'd wager you could go out of the rear of staging with no consequences?
SADLY, some of the tech people have their own interpetations of these rules!
