Ignition wires
Any recommendation for ignition wires. Using an MSD 6 AL plugged to a MSD billet distributor w/ HEI hat. The more you read, the more confusing it is. Thanks in advance.------John

Re: Ignition wires
Had good luck with Moroso 40+.

Re: Ignition wires
MSD 8.5 mm Super Conductor (I too use a 6AL with the Billet MSD distributor, BBC high 9 second ride)

Re: Ignition wires
Well , I guess I am on the right track as those two sets of wires are my picks so far. Anybody have any experience with the Granatelli wires ? Read an article on them. Almost to good to be true----of course ! Read some comments on an ignition wire -------not so good . I guess the basis of comparison is
ohms per foot. |
Re: Ignition wires
I've been using Accel 8.8 300+ race wires on my car for many year to compliment the Mallory Hy-Fire 6AL ignition box, coil & billet distributor. I buy the cut-to-fit wires to minimize any excess length and route them in a convenient path. Wires are changed every several years as preventive maintenance. They never gave me a problem. Only had a minor distributor wire connector problem once with the rest of it. Otherwise, its pretty much been install & forget!

Re: Ignition wires
Like all race car parts, your experience with other racers favorite parts may vary .
Keeping that in mind , I've had excellent results with the Moroso 40's . Treat them well , keep them clean and away from the headers ,and they will last several years. I had old Moroso 80 ohm wires on my car for at least five years with no problems and only replaced them when I was chasing an ignition box problem. Spend the money on the sleeves, well worth it. |
Re: Ignition wires
Had Accel 8.8 wires on my car for the first 2 years then installed my data acquisition system and had all kinds of noise issues on the rpm channels. I called Computech and they suggested MSD 8.5 wires and sure enough the problem went away. Cut to fit is the only way to go for a clean look.

Re: Ignition wires
Firecore makes a great wire, used by many pro teams.

Re: Ignition wires
I used accell 8.8 wires forever... Not a darn thing wrong with the wire regarding performance or longevity.... However, I installed a data logger this past winter. I Noticed several sensor traces as pretty noisy, and the sensors closest to the wires were the worst.
Did some checking around, and found out that the MSD 8.5 superconductor wires not only purport to have much better noise suppression, but also actually much lower conductor resistance, which would seem counter intuitive..... But there was enough info out there to make it credible..... So just two weeks ago, I bought a set of the MSD 8.5 Super Conductor wires, and tested them for resistance, then installed them. Sure enough, less than half the resistance of the accell 8.8 wires, and my data logger traces have 75% less noise in them. Im convinced. Kp |
Re: Ignition wires
Firecore is what I use.....
