F.A.S.T. or HOLLEY DOMINATOR
Serious replies needed please. I was all set to buy a new F.A.S.T. unit
for our J/SA 1990 Camaro F.I. When I mentioned this to our Chassis Dyno guy, he ripped me a new azz. He told me the smart way to go was the Holley Dominator, because it has many more "boxes" of readouts in all areas, is much more user friendly, all of this allowing for much better and accurate tune-ability. I live in Canada, so either unit will cost me approx. $2000.00 -2500.00, plus $1000.00 Canada tax, extra freight etc. So, if I choose wrong, it could wind up costing me $7000.00. You can see I'd like to be right the first time. Any help would be helpful. Thanks, J.R. Haddad P.S. Ed W. and Country Puppy, I respect your opinions greatly. |
Re: F.A.S.T. or HOLLEY DOMINATOR
J.R… I would suggest going out to Mission today or tomorrow. Maybe talk to Sean Cour (usually parked near tech line up) Cam Chowen, Casey Plaizier or Kyle Rizzoli . Maybe they can assist you with your questions. When they call Stock or Super Stock go to the lanes and you can see who runs what, Good Luck…Maurice.

Re: F.A.S.T. or HOLLEY DOMINATOR
Maurice, I would love to be at Mission this weekend. If I could be I would have our car there too. But I live in Winnipeg, which is about
30 hours of towing one way. Thanks, J.R. |
Re: F.A.S.T. or HOLLEY DOMINATOR
Sorry… For some reason I thought you lived out in B.C. Have you considered moving? :) Good Luck…MB.

Re: F.A.S.T. or HOLLEY DOMINATOR
I work with both, I don't agree with your dyno guy. The Holley system is fine, but I prefer FAST. Their "self tuning " ability is over rated, IMHO. Maybe in a slow car? In the car I have worked most using the Holley, a 427" COPO, if the fuel "map" was lean at 6500, (in lower gears where it wound up faster, especially) by the time it got the fuel added, it was at 7000, using the next cel. If it was not lean at 7000, it was now rich at 7000. Kinda chasing it's tail. After I got it dialed in in open loop, I put it back in closed loop, and it corrects and repeats very well.
I'm wondering if your dyno guy sells the Holley? :-) Sure a lot of class fast class winning cars at Indy using FAST. As I said, the Holley system is fine also. I have found nothing you mentioning him saying about the differences to be accurate. |
Re: F.A.S.T. or HOLLEY DOMINATOR
Ed, Just got home from work and saw your reply. Thank you as I wanted to go with the F.A.S.T. system as I heard good things about their support people. Nice to have someone with your knowledge and a fast car to boot, agree with a decision that we wanted to make. I put a lot into what you say. Thank You. J.R.

Re: F.A.S.T. or HOLLEY DOMINATOR
Thanks J.R. (blushing) if I can help with anything just let me know. David Page at FAST is a grest guy, and helps many racers. Their customer support is excellent. All good guys there.

Re: F.A.S.T. or HOLLEY DOMINATOR
JR, we run a FAST system on our 1998 GT/FA mustang. We are extremely pleased with the product and would recommend to anyone. Although, I've never used a competing product, I'm sure there are some good ones on the market. However, I'm willing to go out on a limb and bet there's no company with a better combination of product and customer service on the market! Going with FAST was one of the best decisions we made when transitioning from carb to EFI.

Re: F.A.S.T. or HOLLEY DOMINATOR
I think Nick summed it up. All systems work well when they are tuned properly. However, I don't believe any system can compete with Fast's at the track support and their software is much easier to use, in my opinion. Also, FAST even pays contingency. I have not used the holley personally, but I have dealt with accel, big stuff, and fast. Fast has been the easiest system to use and you can always get support from the knowledgeable team at FAST. Count your FAST users that were successful at Indy. I don't think it's just coincidence.

Re: F.A.S.T. or HOLLEY DOMINATOR
we have a HOLLEY system on our copo and they are very easy to work with and also offer a schoool at bowling green, ky to help you understand and allow you to tune the system and be confident about your lap top tuning abilities. we have used other sytems one that works one that never did . I think the HOLLEY is the most user freindly and they are the best today. however other systems may not be freindly to the newer operating systems on the new laptops or computers for sale today, hope this helps in making the best choose for your application and good luck.
