Calvert springs
 

I bought a set of Calvert springs for my Nova stocker last month. Today I finally got around to putting them on. When I went to raise the right side spring up to hook up the rear spring shackle it was about 4 inches off to the inside from lining up. Both springs have the same part number on them. Are both springs supposed to be the same or is there a left and right side. It looks like I have 2 left side springs. I can't get in touch with John Calvert and I'd like to get these things on this weekend if possible. Anyone out there know what's going on with these?

I have two sets for my 68 Mustang, one raised and one lowered. I put them side by side when I got them and the pairs of each set were identical. Theres a difference between the front and back end, of coarse , but no right and left that I know of.


EDIT: I just went down and looked at the lowered set in the garage and the part numbers are consecutive. They don't match. One is 39753 and the other is 39754 for my Ford. They are split mono 2000 springs. The large number on the spring label has an "L" to indicate Lowered and one has the big sticker at the front and reads LF while the other has the big sticker at the rear and reads LR.

Bill…Your front spring perches may have to be loosened off and repositioned. MB.

Maurice ; That's the first thing that I did. It brought the spring to within about an inch of being lined up , but you still have to f orce the spring over to get it to line up. That's not going to work with the spring in a bind. Thank's for the response. Bill

Bill - I have not tried it before in the order you are attempting (front first, rear last), but I don't see where that would be an issue. Maybe reverse the order just for the heck of it to see what gives. You doing this on jackstands or a lift?

Check the tie bolt placement in relationship to the front eye. If different it will change wheel base.

Bill, It sounds like you are saying that both springs do the same thing on the right side only?

Mark; I put the left side on first. It lined up with the rear shackle just like it's supposed to. When I put the right side on and raised the spring up that's when I found that it didn't line up. I had just taken off the Landrum spring for that side that lined up perfectly.These monoleaf springs have an offset to the outside as they go from front to rear. They are not in a straight line from front to back. Since both springs are tagged with the same part number and look like they are staggered to the left as they go from front to rear I think I have two left side springs. Guess I'll try to get in touch with John Calvert on Monday and see what's up. Thanks. Bill

Shouldn't be any difference in springs.
The front to rear offset is built into the car.
Even though the Landrum fit at this point, doesn't mean something isn't tweaked in rt. spring mount.
You don't know for sure without trying the other spring.
Call Calvert..but most likely you'll have to make that one work.
Bolt the front up and pull on the spring to the right and see what happen. It's only a sheet metal stamping.
Otherwise you can just file out two of the three holes in the mount and swing it over a little more.

Bill - You did'nt by any chance tighten the front cup before swinging the leaf pack up in the rear did you?
