SBC Super 10 timing chain
I will soon need a timing system for the Super 10. I will consider a belt drive but am leaning toward a chain.
What to y'all like? |
Re: SBC Super 10 timing chain
Belt all the way. Easy to do the cam timing, gets rid of harmonics in the valve train and they look cool. Tom

Jesel belt drive.

Jesel belt.

Re: SBC Super 10 timing chain
I agree, Jesel belt. If you can't afford that, think about a Rollmaster. Billet gears, needle thrust bearing behind the cam gear. IMHO, nicer than Cloyes. Scoggin Dickey sells them. If you can swing it, get a Jesel belt.

Re: SBC Super 10 timing chain
Belt is cleaner, looks cool. But CTPO, no power advantage. I have been involved in fourteen different A-B-A tests with Jesel belt vs quality chain and gear and the results I have seen point to the chain making a hair's width more power. Also, no difference in harmonics as measured electronically for vibration and or sonic changes.
Ed's suggestion for the Rollmaster is good. They also manufacture a chain set that allows for timing changes without removing gears. http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e2...psf7709ad4.jpg |
Re: SBC Super 10 timing chain
Thanks to all for the feedback.
And speaking of the Roll Master products I have run several sets of those with excellent results. For my situation I think it is a good choice. |
Re: SBC Super 10 timing chain
I use Cloyes because I can always get a replacement chain later, haven't had that good of luck getting replacement chains with others, seemed like everytime I needed one they had changed to different chain.
I like the hex-adjust they also have the other one can't think of name where outside of gear moves like the rollmaster pictured. I like Jesel belt, really good to dyno and test cam timing in the car and cam swaps, I had A-B tested a few with no gain I could see, wasn't sure if what I was testing on was to mild to have enough harmonics to make a difference. Have been looking at this type of timing set for a while and connot verify if this or another part number is compatable with step nose cam. |

They had them in stock whenever I needed them. I saw zero gain when I bought my Jesel either. Saw nothing other than not having to pull the dampener, timing cover or water pump to move the cam. |
