U/SA help request
My wife's 302 Ford slowed .4 and 4 mph last weekend.
Have checked usual suspects. NOTHING in oil filter Very little in Trans pan. just a dusting of clutch material. Fluid bright red. Sounds good Good oil pressures. Good fuel pressure. Running the same fuel as my Super Stocker No miss. not a traction problem It has Comp hydraulic lifters. I heard somewhere that these can bleed sometimes. Kinda baffeled??? |
Re: U/SA help request
Mike check your plugs and ing system. I had something happen on my footbrake care recently. I would just slow down, sounded good, no skip etc. But discovered that the module in the dist was going bad (Pertronics). All the plugs were black, changed module and its all better. Hope you find it.

Re: U/SA help request
Hi Mike, not to overstate the obvious but what were the weather conditions like? Wind and weather changes affect "little cars" a whole bunch more than they will affect your SS car.

Convertor?? Compare you time slip 60ft times to a "good" pass. If it loses a couple of hundredths in the 60ft, it could very easily lose 4 hundredths in the 1/4. Compare all you incremental times and see where it losing or if its all the way down the track. Good Luck RJ |
Re: U/SA help request
Billy Weather was almost identical to good
pass All incrementals were off. DA 3075 to 3080 RJ it slowed 4 tenths not 4 hun. Something is wrong, but not obvious. |
Re: U/SA help request
If the engine seems good, I'd suspect convertor issues. You may have a seized up stator, won't affect your 60 ft but will affect it the rest of the way down the track.

Re: U/SA help request
Look to see where on track you lost the time.
I have been having problems with MSD Coils a lot in last couple of years. It reflects more on back 1/2 numbers and particularly MPH. I would borrow another coil to try. Also Electrical stuff and connections slow the car down and I would go thru all related wiring. |
Re: U/SA help request
Mike,
My car has pulled that on me. I thought I lost a cam, everything checked out fine with the engine and leak down. I could not find anything mechanically wrong, and pulled all of the grounds and cleaned them. And magically the car was back to normal. What I found out was a bad ground was the problem. The data logger never showed a voltage issue or fuel pressure issue. But 3 passes in a row it kept slowing down more, and did not sound any different, after resorting to everything but mechanical it had to be an electrical issue. Good luck Sean |
Re: U/SA help request
My 302 2v Maverick slowed .4 when I installed the correct legal carb. instead of the 351W carb that we thought was correct. That said we did have a issue with failed camshaft lobes that did not have a audible miss just really laid down. Louis Jeffery

It went 85 under on the first pass. BJ didn't quite get it fully on the two step and it kinda rolled out on that run..still went that fast. Next run , it looked good leaving on the two step.Surprisingly it slowed down over 2 tenths. The head wind was quite strong at times, early on. 1st round Saturday, I assume Mike discounted the second TT ,and dialed kinda off the 1st one. After the red light ,it ran 4-5 tenths over the dial. My comment was .."You ought to be able to find it now". Mike..You remember I told you about my street bracket car? I had replaced the stock HEI module and coil with a slightly used MSD 6 A and a used Blaster coil. Last two outings, it's been about 5 tenths slower than in the beginning . The car starts, runs and drives perfectly. I'm going to change it all back as soon as I get a chance. |
