light weight battery

racers, what is the latest update in ref to light weight batteries? Both 12 volt and 16 volt.

I am considering removing a 45 pound Rock 16 volt and replacing it with something lighter.

look into Deka batteries by East Penn--regardless of what you hear or may have heard everything points to the Braille battery being made by this company--- A Deka battery's cost is at least 20-30% LESS than a Braille maybe even more inexpensive than that compared to Braille pricing--- Deka batteries are available thru NAPA for sure / on line thru many sources and other big box auto parts stores plus lots of dealers selling them--FED 387

We use a 17lb Braile battery. Lasted two and one half years. These batteries have good cranking amps but no reserve. A alt. is a must. This is one our 2013 CJ with lots of electronics.

Kirk,

you have voiced my concern. I do not run an alternator so reserve is very important.

Also, I am looking at weight removal so having to add an alternator will defeat the purpose.

The Super 10 is completely different from your situation. It has small amp draw when running [small fuel pump, water pump, MSD 6AL] is all I run down track. It also starts easily but when we consider several starts in the lanes and fan running on the return road it must have reasonable reserve capacity.

Just now it is equipped with a large [45 pound] Rock 16 volt that could go several rounds without charging if necessary. Plus, that 45 pounds is at the rear.

For the short term I will look other places for weight removal.

We tried the light weight stuff once in the COPO - lots of electronics and coils and injectors. Did everything the manufacture said to do, and it lasted about 2 months and was killed and needed "rebuilt" for $350.

A - we need the weight in the back
B - if you can't maintain voltage you can't keep the tune consistent (with F/I)
C - if it won't start your are screwed....
