SBC guide plate ?

I have at least one pushrod guide plate, which needs to be split to get the rocker square on the valve stem.
since I assume these plates are hard, probably a band saw will not work [or will it?]. what is the best and or easiest way to split a plate?

Thanks Rod in AZ

Band saw has always worked for me. After you set them properly in place, weld them together in place to prevent any movement.

An abrasive cutoff wheel works well. You can get them pretty thin (1/16 0r 1/32} x 4" .

They make slotted adjustable guide plates for the small block Chevy. You simply move them where you need them, and tack them with a welder (I suggest TIG).

thanks for the help/ answers.
this leads to another question. these are GM/Chevy 292 heads and were tapped at the factory, and the plates are all machine stamped. how is it that they are off. you would think they would be all right on.

Why not make your own guide plate? You can water jet them or mill them if you have a bridgeport. If you need them hardened, make them from 01 or A2 and flame harden with a torch. You will have a set exactly the way you want them.

The Isky adjustable guide plates work well. AFR and Comp Cams also make 'em.
