Gear and converter for 2011 Coyote Mustang

For a max effort street car.........Im aware that a 3.15-3.30 rear gear is more optimum for overall first gear ratio, since the trans has a 4.17 first gear........But I believe 2nd gear in the trans is around a 2.5.......making 2nd gear similar to first gear in a normal 3 speed auto car. Any hints on gearing these cars? converter hints? Friends car currently has far too much overall first gear in it due to the 3.90 rear gear. He has a Circle D 4500 lock up converter. He tells me that the car didnt feel faster with the 3.31 gear in the rear. But I told him that how it feels isn't the whole story.......shift rpm fallback/recovery is more important than having a ridiculous 16-1 overall first gear ratio. Looking for advice. Thanks.

Car with the 3.90 gear has gone 11.60@116 with a 1.60 60ft best. Others are claiming three to four tenths faster at same weight with same engine mods.

The problem is RPM. The engine doesn't want to quit, but the PCM does and there is no alternative to operate the transmission. With some calibration tweaks the most I've been able to get out of the automatic PCM is about 7900 RPM.

So that said, best results came with a 3.31 gear, 5C converter from Circle D, and 3 gearing it through the 1/4. I spent a lot of time trying a 4.30 gear so it would use 4 gears. It was difficult to hook it, and it wasn't any faster anyhow.

I would agree 11.60 is on the weak side. I've seen a hair better than that with 100% stock engine, not even headers, just an off road X, stock trans with 3C converter, stock 3.15 axle, and all stock suspension even other than a Roush upper control arm. Your 60 isn't bad for one of these running in that ET range, I'd guess the back half isn't very good, 116 looks like it is down on power.

I came up with a transbrake circuit for that trans using all the stock electronics. It works pretty well and will pick up ET a little.
